Try about $56 million.

The Eagles are still paying Jason Kelce. They are paying his ass $16.4 million in dead money and he’s been gone for 2 years.

Dead money counts towards the cap. Just bc they lower the cap hit and spread it out doesn’t mean they won’t ever pay it.

The Eagles are paying $50 million in dead money for guys to NOT play for them. The Chiefs are paying less than $1 million in dead money.

And neither Creed Humphrey nor Trey Smith (if kept and extended) will make $20M+ in 2025, either.

Humphrey is scheduled to cost about $11M next year. KC will likely structure Smith's deal, if it happens, so that 2025 is less than the average annual value of the deal.

Their C is still on his rookie deal; he's about to enter year 4.

If the Chiefs go, say Humphries/Suamataia-Thuney-Humphrey-Smith-Taylor as their OL configuration for 2025, you're talking about:

Rookie deal/small vet deal-Big FA deal-extension still under AAV-extension still under AAV-Big FA deal

or

1.5M/3m-$26M-11M-12M-26M

It's a lot of cheese, but I'd wager it's not all that different than the Eagles when it shakes out (and they may extend Jurgens before the 25 season, yet).

It’s also really hard to get good players picking so late.

Veach has picked in the 1st rd after pick 25 4 times. Clyde, Felix, Karlaftis and Worthy.

2 busts and 2 plus players. 50% hit rate which isn’t too bad but still very difficult.

I think this is a very similar situation and from what we know, it makes sense. The Tackle market is terrible and they want to keep the OL as strong as they can.
So repeat the same failed strategy as last year is the answer?

Feel feel to list all of the solutions in FA and the draft for a LT.

You realize the market is total shit at tackle and pretty much full of Wanya Morris’ and Kingsley Suamatia’s projects picking late in the draft yes? And what do you expect the Chiefs to do about that?

Personally I'd gladly pay either Alaric Jackson or Cam Robinson the money they've apparently earmarked for Trey Smith. And I think Cam Robinson is average at best.

And if they are actually planning to double dip and sign one of those two then I'd instead spend that money on keeping two out of Bolton, Reid, or Omenihu

I’ve already said my solution… trade for a veteran LT such as Jake Matthews.

Otherwise it’s the definition of insanity to repeat a strategy that failed spectacularly this season.

Invest everywhere else on the offensive line, while going cheap at LT, resulted in a career guard having to play at LT for the entire duration of the postseason.

And some people want to repeat that strategy?

Atlanta isn't giving you their LT while breaking in Penix, did you get high before posting?

I'll say this, I find it really hard to believe they'd let all three of those guys walk in favor of Smith + LT. If that happens, it's Andy Reid saying he's had enough and Spags' personnel be damned.

We'll see. I'd also find it hard to believe they're planning on a trade up being the answer at LT.

Atlanta is over the salary cap and Penix is a left-handed QB which makes LT less of a priority.

It may not be all of that difference from the Eagles in the end, but that goes back to my point that the Eagles OL is significantly better so we're paying just as much for an inferior product.

So we're just going to live with Mahomes getting hammered behind one of the most expensive OLs in the league for the forseeable future because it's hard to address LT?

He's already seeing ghosts in the pocket and is constantly rattled, his mechanics have continued to regress and he's continually showing bad habits. We're just going to be content with that and watch our HOF QB potentially get injured and/or see his career cut short because we can't adequately protect him?
