The Buffalo Theory.....

Patrick Mahomes is 17-4 in the playoffs.

3 of those losses came the game after beating Buffalo. The obly following game where the Chiefs beat Buffalo and won was the AFC title game where the Chiefs still only scored 17.

Is it possible that playing and beating Buffalo all the time in the playoffs is both mentally and physically draining or are 3 of the 4 post season losses following playing the Bills a coincidence?

Beating BAL builds our confidence. Beating BUF takes a piece of our soul. The tears of Josh Allen are quite potent.

Could be something but we pounded Buffalo in 2020 and really don't remember it being the rivalry its become

Plus both times in 2020 and 2024 they had 2 weeks off to prepare for the SB

I tend to think its just as simple as going up against great defenses that can get there with 4, along with shit oline play in '20 & '24 and Pat getting the yips, having a concussion, or whatever the **** that was in '21

Leaving them overconfident in their game plan going forward? Just stick with it like McDermott and the QB sneak? It will work try harder

It’s really just as simple as probabilities. After beating Buffalo we have always been playing a really good team deep in the playoffs. And with all of our success, it’s easy to forget that this just doesn’t happen every year. There is a reason teams haven’t won 3 super bowls in a row or even made the third after winning the first two. The odds say that at some point something will bite you in the butt, that’s just how football works. You can’t only point to Dee ford being offsides and the bizarre second half against Cincy and say see we were just two plays away or whatever from 7 straight Super Bowl appearances. Those are things that happen. Or someone really doesn’t match up well with you, or injuries, or a random penalty at a key spot or a fumble bounces right to them instead of us. As long as we keep pushing deep into the playoffs and 2 MVP level QBs in our conference are healthy, we are going to keep running into them and weird oddities like this will occur. It’s meaningless and yes, unfortunately, the Chiefs aren’t going to win every year.

Let me phrase it a different way: is it more odd we haven’t played well after playing the bills a few times against very good teams, or is it more odd the Chiefs haven’t won 3 super bowls in a row, a first in NFL history, and made 6 super bowls in a row(so possibly 4 titles in a row if we beat Cincy)? Randomly losing to a good team is much more probable than what we would have had to have done to disprove the Bills theory.

Did you get this great theory from Bills fans? They’ve been saying this to make themselves feel better everytime the Chiefs send their team home. It didn’t quite work out in ‘23 but they still tried.

This is it.

We also always play the Bills in either the Divisional or Championship Round. That means we lose in the Championship Game or Super Bowl. That’s not weird, even for dynasties.

Man, I just think our guys were mentally and physically exhausted after everything they had to overcome this year and after the prior two seasons. They're not machines, they're human beings and I think they emptied the tank against Buffalo and just didn't have anything left.

There's no shame in that, and there's no blame for it, really. Nobody had ever done what they were trying to do, and considering everything that went wrong this year, it was a goddamned miracle they even got there.

Re-tool, add some pieces, shore up some weaknesses and come in with a full head of steam in September. In the long run, it may be a benefit having gotten so close and falling short.

It could also be a feeling of unworthy guilt surrender. Little girl is critically injured/Super Bowl parade killing. Lets not have another parade during anniversary of last season's death. While it is being morbidly rehashed on all local tv stations

I think part of it was that to them it had become much bigger than just one game. Plus we all know when Mahomes starts getting hit he can quickly turn into Bad Brett Favre

Hey, and tip of the cap where it's due. The Eagles came out with their hair on fire and flat stuck it to them.

I hate Nick Sirianni as much as I hate anyone in football, but those guys were ready to play.

No denying that. Their intensity was through the roof, ours looked like someone died. And yeh **** Sirianni, but I guarantee his fake tough guy attitude was getting them fired up during the 2 weeks. They’ve become what his ego is. Wish our offense would be more fired up and on point at the start of SBs. Seems we always starts slow, and takes Pat a while to get locked in.
