Chiefs Rushing D vs. Eagles & Barkley

How do the Chiefs stop Barkley?

Total Rushing Yards in 2024: The Eagles accumulated 3,048 rushing yards during the 2024 season

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/eagles-rushing-stats

In the playoffs, Barkley averaged 147.3 rushing yards per game with five touchdowns.

https://phillysportsnetwork.com/2025...numbers-stats/

The Chiefs allowed an average of 101.8 rushing yards per game during the 2024 season

Despite allowing a moderate number of rushing yards, the Chiefs have been effective in limiting explosive runs, which could help them contain the Eagles' powerful running game

https://underdognetwork.com/football...iefs-vs-eagles

In the playoffs, James Cook of Buffalo... rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries, averaging 6.5 yards per carry.

His longest run was for 33 yards, showcasing his ability to break tackles and gain significant yardage.

So, it would seem that the way to beat Philadelphia lies at the hands of the rushing defense.

How do we stop Barkley?

I just believe that Spags will have an answer for him, and hold him to something reasonable, at least through the first half or so. At that point, it'll be up to Andy and Mahomes to somehow get a lead late and force Hurts to throw instead of handing off.

Easier said than done, but that has to be the gameplan in a nutshell.
he's a great player and will get his, just don't allow any big touchdown plays and get a lead so they want to pass more

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Not similar styles TBH.

Barry had legs the size of tree trunks. If you watch his career highlights, you'll notice that surprisingly half of them involve defenders bouncing off him. Not just a speedster. Obviously he had crazy agility and juke moves but he was a strong runner after contact.

Barkley is a better receiver out of the backfield. That wasn't Barry's game.

Barkley would be closer to Tomlinson probably. Just a notch below in my book.

Not true. Barry was a solid pass catcher.

Yep. Curious how long the Eagles will stick with the run if they get down by two scores in the 2nd half.

I wasn't really thinking about actual styles, tbf. Though Barkley exhibits many of the same skills/abilities that Barry had, like his extraordinary quickness/agility, and so on.

I was really thinking about the fact that both have the ability to take it all the way to the EZ on any given play, from any yard line.

It all comes down to Sirianni

Of course the Eagles will come in wanting to run the ball and control the clock

But its easier said than done. If the Chiefs take the kick and score on the opening drive are you going to run it on 3rd and 6? The problem running offenses have is one negative play, a hold, a sack, a run for no gain, etc can kill drives. Life is easy if its 3rd or 4th and short for Philly, its when they are are 2nd and long we will see if Sirianni has the balls to stick to his game plan. When you are playing Mahomes and Spags, its never easy.

Bend but don't break in reference to our rushing defense. Let Barkley rack up the yards between the 20s, but 50 to 75% majority of the time kick field goals in the red zone. Just NO huge plays by Barkley.

IMHO, pretty much have to man up but key Bolton and Chenal on Barkley. Make Hurts beat us in the air! We have to limit Barkley from running us out of this game!

This is what it comes down to. We have to score touchdowns. All these so called “great rushing teams” are quick to abandon the run. We need to put some points on the board early. The Eagles will panic and start throwing the football. Will blitz Hurts and he’ll stink up the joint. BUT, if our offense stalls, the Eagles get an early lead, they can get their running game going and control the clock. All bets are off and it’s a 50/50 game
