Chiefs Rushing D vs. Eagles & Barkley

How do the Chiefs stop Barkley?

Total Rushing Yards in 2024: The Eagles accumulated 3,048 rushing yards during the 2024 season

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/eagles-rushing-stats

In the playoffs, Barkley averaged 147.3 rushing yards per game with five touchdowns.

https://phillysportsnetwork.com/2025...numbers-stats/

The Chiefs allowed an average of 101.8 rushing yards per game during the 2024 season

Despite allowing a moderate number of rushing yards, the Chiefs have been effective in limiting explosive runs, which could help them contain the Eagles' powerful running game

https://underdognetwork.com/football...iefs-vs-eagles

In the playoffs, James Cook of Buffalo... rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries, averaging 6.5 yards per carry.

His longest run was for 33 yards, showcasing his ability to break tackles and gain significant yardage.

So, it would seem that the way to beat Philadelphia lies at the hands of the rushing defense.

How do we stop Barkley?

It's really fitting the Final Boss for the 3peat is the one position most feared by 90s Chiefs fans.... the running back.

Barkley lives off of missed tackles and yards after contact. If we bring our A tackling game, the story will be all about the disappearance of Saquon Barkley.

Obviously can't have any gaffes like the cook play where 2 guys have him zeroed and then just shit the bed. He's gotta go down immediately.

Devonta Smith should be the real worry here, as in 3 games against Spags, he averages about 6/100.

Smith is battling injury right now. It will be interesting to see if he's 100%.

You simply cannot let Barkley beat you, that's really all there is to it. Stack the line as much as you have to and make Hurts beat you with his arm. He is not the same QB he was the first time we played in the SB, for whatever reason. The dude threw for under 3,000 yards with one of the most stacked core of weapons any QB could ever ask for. Actually kind of mind boggling how average he was.

I'm making him and Barkley beat us with their legs until they prove they can pass the ball.

I think I saw on one of these preview shows their center is still questionable even after the week off. That will be huge if they're compromised in the middle.

I mean, a 2k yard running back DOES negatively impact passing statistics. They clearly didnt need Hurts to throw for 4k+ with that ground game.

The guy can still sling it if it goes that way.

My biggest concern is the Eagles OLine is Effin' HUGE. Like Goliaths. Jason Kelce was the smallest... and they replaced him with a much bigger dude.

They seem to always block people and Saquon gets all jukey/jivey and goes on big runs.

Meh, they probably did it because they could, not because they're incapable of moving the ball through the air.... (if I had half the faith in their coaching staff as I do Reid, I'd assume they're playing 5D chess and will suddenly air it out Sunday, but considering everyone says they run a high school offense, I kind of doubt it).

I assume they'll do what they've always done on defense and let them run between the 20s and let them have 10+ play drives if they can do it... then you of course don't want Barkley to break any, consistently get like 8ypc, or make it easy in the red zone.

He can run for 150+ for all I care, just like the Bills and Texans did as a team, except they probably need to be more effective inside the 20.

And yet Troy Aikman catches shade for the same dynamic.

I don’t think we are going to stop him. He’ll get his yards.

I think Pat is going to have to put up points, and that’s exactly what he’ll do
