I was in Beijing with my family back in 2008. It was my folks, brother, sister, and me. I was 23 at the time. Just for reference, my brother is gay. Every time I got into the elevator to go to my room, it would stop on the third floor where the spa was and one of their masseuses would get on with me. Always a female with some made up English name like Michelle or something. They would give me a card and offer massage services, making sure to explain they could come to my room to give the massage in private. At the end of the first day we were all gathered talking and my dad and I start talking about all the massage offers. We each had 4-5 different cards from different girls and were laughing about it. My mom and sister were both a little confused because, while a masseuse would get in the elevator with them, they were never offered a massage or given a card. The funniest part was when my brother chimed in that he hadn't been propositioned, either. My dad and I thought this was absolutely hilarious. Their gaydar must have been spot on because my bro isn't exactly flamboyant. Seemed pretty clear what the game was and that they were only after straight men. Of course, if we went out for a walk, there were woman who would just straight up offer sex. No brevity involved. I wasn't about to go poking around in one of them, though.

Still a highlight of that trip.
