Let's Talk About the Eagles (Super Bowl 59 Discussion)

We're headed back to the Ship and will try to be the first team to 3-peat in Super Bowl history!!! Chiefs open up as 1.5 favorites over the Eagles.

Discuss.

He’s not wrong as historically we have seen this from about 99% of fans (not from division rivals). It’s wash, rinse, repeat. Now if you are different then great! We could always use fans from other teams on here. This place does have a way of filtering weaker minded fans out quickly though.

Now if Philly is gonna win what are they gonna have to do and why?

3/11 is almost half? It's less than 30 percent. Is that almost half in Philadelphia?

Mitchell is a good player, but Bradberry was an All-Pro in 2022 and Slay was younger and better than he is now. Maybe a slight bump there, but mostly a wash. DeJean is an upgrade from Maddox in the slot (but primarily because Maddox was hurt all of 22. Otherwise a good player and he played well in the Super Bowl).

The edge rushers are... worse at one spot, same at the other. This version of Carter and that version of Hargrave, OK, I'll give you a slight bump on Carter. Davis is not a rookie and is better (but I'm not sure how much he will play against KC, anyway). The overall defensive line depth is worse, and it's ability to pressure the passer as a unit is worse. Like, literally it's the worst pressure rate in the NFL.

I'd consider the LBs a BIG upgrade if Dean was playing. Baun and Burks is... I guess an upgrade for Baun (though he hasn't been as good without Dean as a running mate).

Blankenship is worse.

I just don't see it.

To recap. All I’ve said is that the 24 Eagle defence is better than the 22 eagles defense. I didn’t denigrate the Chiefs in any way. In response to that, you have been a rude, obnoxious toddler.

One giant lol at you.
You can say that it is better, but I don't buy it. And it didn't pass the eye test against the Rams or Commanders for me. Both of those teams moved the ball consistently and well against the Eagles, with turnovers being the big bug-a-boo.

KC's offense, BTW, is much better at WR than the 22 squad (Brown/Worthy/Hopkins dusts Smith-Schuster/Valdes-Scantling/Toney or Moore). It's better at RT (Andrew Wylie played the game of his life in SV LVII, but Jawaan Taylor is a much better pass protector, even with the penalty rate). It's clearly worse at LG, with Thuney not playing, but it's the same/better at C/RG and roughly a wash at LT with Thuney compared to Brown (who would be a disastrous matchup against this Eagles unit). Kelce is not quite what he was in 22, but he still has plenty in the tank to draw attention and make a team pay if it ignores him. And Hunt/Pacheco/Perine is a better and deeper group than Pacheco/McKinnon.

Kelce sticking it to Houston was fantastic because if absolutely nothing else comes of it, it re-established him as a credible threat that teams have to be prepared to focus on.

Buffalo obviously did and it opened things up for Worthy and Hollywood.

Putting that on tape was enormous for us.

So does Jalen Hurts play the game of his life again?

Been a while since I posted but I'm curious about people's observations on the Eagles since I haven't watched any of their games. I did a Quick Look at Rams game, and it looks like Barkley had two explosive runs for 78, and 62 yards. If you take those away, he had 65 yards on 24 rushing attempts for an average of 2.7 YPC. Obviously the guy is a stud given the sheer numbers he's put up this year. But the Rams kept him bottled up except for those two plays and Jaylen also had a 44 yard TD. Maybe that's a bad sample game to look at?

That was in a blizzard. That being said, I think limiting the long runs is paramount. Spags has stopped Derrick Henry in the playoffs, he can stop Barkley... Nick Bolton is going to have a big game.

Not for nothing, it's important for us to score early and often and make running th ball a sophie's choice with the clock.

Ok, I just went through the play by play for the Saints game. Also a terrible game for the Eagles. What exactly are people seeing when they think they're going to beat the chiefs?

I actually like how KCs defense matches up to the Eagles offense. KC can commit more to stopping the run because they have a secondary that can hold up well in coverage. It can’t be understated that McDuffie, Karlaftis, Williams, Watson, Cook, and Chenel were all rookies in the 22 Super Bowl. They have all improved and all of that experience will continue to pay dividends in this game.

On offense if they can keep Mahomes upright and limit turnovers they should be able to move the ball well as Reid is very familiar with the Fangio defense. They will just have to punch it in when they get into the red zone vs settling for FGs. Hope they really utilize Hopkins and his ability to catch almost anything down there in this game.

Talent along with Pro Bowl/ All Pro selections, Philly does have a very talented roster. KC’s played in a lot of close games this year and because of it they are viewed more as “lucky” than good, which is very misleading. Also Chiefs fatigue plays into all of it.

You're not bothering us at all. You won't even be here after the Super Bowl. We've seen you thousands of times before. Enjoy the grace period, it won't last long.

I just typically have so little worry about losing to RBs in big games because these coaches, even the really good ones (and Sirianni ain't that) just cannot help themselves.

They're gonna **** up a couple of drives even with a dominant running game by trying to force the pass.

If you have Mahomes -- cool, do that. But if you have Barkley and Hurts, you should probably get Barkley 30 touches in the game. I really don't think Sirianni and Moore have the patience and stability for that.
Green Bay’s defensive effort is what we need. Barkley’s long run in that game was under 20. He was efficient but didn’t take that game over.

Against Washington and LA, Barkley was very average on the ground with the exception of 3 runs. Those were monster TD runs and he ended up with great games as a result.

Even if a back averages 6 yards a carry, it won’t go 6-7-5-6-6-6.

It’ll be more like 12-7-5-13-3-2. That’s now 3rd and 5. QB has to make a play.

We just can’t allow 2 or more long TD runs to bail Hurts out from having to convert multiple third downs on long drives. We have to make him work for it.

I would just assume that he does. The guy lost the last time and I'm sure he'll be plenty motivated to "get revenge" on us.

I don't hate the Eagles players (like Hurts), just their fans who are the most obnoxious fanbase in the NFL. Based on how much trash talk coming from them, you would think they have 6 super bowls.

This is it in a nutshell. Bring some numbers, bring some evidence, and stick it out.

So far, we are seeing the same damn behavior we have seen thousands of times before. Why wouldn't we predict it end sup exactly the same?

There should be a legal requirement to come back to a message board to eat shit when your team loses if you pop up like this.

Talk shit on the Chiefs on ChiefsPlanet then disappear when the Chiefs win?

Straight to jail. For life.
