If the Chiefs re-sign Humphries.

Let's say the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, or at least come close. Down the stretch, Humphries plays pretty damn well. Like, at a B level -- which is good enough.

If the Chiefs re-sign him -- likely to a one-year prove-it deal -- how would that adjust your projections of what you'd do in the 1st round?

Are you still interested in trading up aggressively? Might you go in a different direction?

If he's B level down the stretch, I sign him for two. Maybe even 3, with an out after two. For the simple reason that I'd like to get out from under Taylor's deal after '25, and I really don't want to have to go into '26 with TWO new OT's.

Does it affect my draft strategy? No, because I'm not selling out or reaching to try to get into the top half of the first anyway. I need lots of good, cheap young talent. I need good football players everywhere, and I know I'm not getting an immediate starting LT in the draft probably until Mahomes retires.

Strongly agree with all of this. IF he plays and looks anything close to solid. We're going to need a lot of churn and ideally a lot of BPA. Looks a decent draft for us in terms of need outside of LT perhaps. Good DEs, CBs, DTs and RBs for a start. If we can eliminate that LT need it'd be massive

I have no interest in trading up for LT, with or without Humphries.

This. Were fairly invested right now. It's hard to take a 1 after two twos. I'd sign him unless he's a complete dumpster fire in the playoffs. He will be better next year with distance between him and the surgery. That and two 2nd round picks plus Taylor should be enough. Now if a tackle falls sure BPA it.

For me, it's just probabilities. They have almost as good a chance finding a starting LT at 32 as they do 22. The hit rate just isn't there. We would be throwing away picks for no reason. And if you're going to stay put, now you're getting into Kingsley territory.

The Chiefs already used their best tool to get a long-term LT - they drafted Kingsley. If they don't wanna let him develop, then it's back to free agency.

We can't afford to chase positions with premium picks. We need to many things.

It depends on what happens. If Josh Simmons falls past 20 due to his injury keeping him out of the combine/pro day, I could totally see Veach moving up

That’s what I’m looking for also, but I’m not against best available OL at the bottom of the 1st.

They also can't afford to allow Mahomes to continue to get hit more than he ever has. The wide receivers were mostly shit in 2023, the OTs have been shit in 2024 (WRs were pretty bad too but that was because of injury), they can't go into 2025 with another huge gaping hole on offense like they have the past 2 years, they've clearly had a plan at WR of going young (Moore and Toney) and at OT of going young (KS and Mooris) and in both cases they dropped the ball. I don't know if the issue is with talent evaluation, coaching, execution, etc. but they've made some significant errors in roster construction these past 2 years in several areas. Fortunately the defense has been dominant, Reid is a great coach, and Mahomes is still Mahomes, so we still have the possibility of a 3-peat.

Long story short, they don't necessarily have to drop an overwhelming amount of picks at OT in the draft, but they sure as hell better execute better than they did in 2024 and they need multiple options in case of injury, in case Suamataia continues to look like the worst tackle in the league, or whatever issue plagues them.

Maybe sign Cam Robinson, Alaric Jackson, or Ronnie Stanley. Idk, do we trust that DJ Humphries will return anywhere close to his pre-injury level? Unfortunately we were never able to learn much about this year unless they take a chance and let him play LT in the playoffs. Ideally they do so and he looks good enough on the way to a Super Bowl that they have confidence they can extend him. Even then you need a backup option and if that backup option is KS they had better be right.

Yeah, that was kind of my point. If we aren't going to draft one where we are, we have to sign one in free agency. Trading up just doesn't make sense for an OT.

They haven't necessarily drafted poorly with Morris OR Kingsley. This is what drafting a project at offensive tackle looks like. If they weren't a project, they would have gone in the top 15. We don't know yet if either can get to legit starter level at OT.

The problem is, when you're a Super Bowl contender every year, you can't just let them play through it. So it slows the progression down.

I wouldn't take another one at #32. You don't do that unless you're giving up on Morris, and I don't think that's wise as he's shown stretches of decent play, and looked playable against Denver at RIGHT tackle. So he looks like he could be a swing tackle at least. And guys are going to be leaving to get paid. You're going to have to re-stock at several spots.

So you need to buy yourself a LEFT tackle in '25. If you think Humphries can give you mid level play, you go ahead and lock him up for a couple of seasons, so you can move on from Taylor in '26.

Regardless if he's here or not, I have a hard time throwing another 1st round pick at the T position for some reason. In this draft, I want a DT, hell I'd even go WR again if the right guy is there.

I'd love to walk away from the 1st. four picks with a DT, OT, CB, and WR or DE

I think there's a solid chance that adopting BPA gets you some combination of that, certainly 2 of DE, DT and CB I could see.

LTs generally age really well. If we win the Bowl and he plays well, I'd give him a three-year deal with 1.5-2 years guaranteed. You still have some hope for developing Kingsley in the meantime.

I just don't wanna get in a spot where we have force something in the draft.

Just keep taking good players, regardless of position, and Veach will take care of filling in the gaps. Dynasty continues.
