That said, St. Brown, LaPorta, Branch and realistically Arnold (wouldn't have been a difficult trade-up) were all gettable for us.

It's very similar to the OT position in that regard. We've had ample opportunity to get guys like Tom, Raimann, etc... and we just haven't done it.

It's hard to win championships in this league. And we're gonna need another really strong draft class in the next season or two if we want to keep doing it.
There's truth to that, your hope there is that because their QB is Goff that, that won't be good enough.

But yes the Chiefs are going to have to be better to continue to be good because well picking at the end of rounds does eventually catch up to you.

Meh. Let's see what they're like going into year two before you crown them. Unless Harbaugh is going to break into Brady's, steal a blood sample, and inject Herbert with the "it" gene, they will be as good as any other Martyball team in the playoffs. One and done.

Everyone knew Bowers was going to be good, hitting on that pick required no skill.

I know this sucks to hear but he’s the best TE in football this season with Kelce showing age. He should be 1st team All Pro.

Goddamnit I hate that the AFC West got so much better this year
First of all, this is what guys like Payton and Harbaugh do - elevate mediocre teams to good. We have no idea if they can push their teams to "great" yet. You're worrying about something that might never happen.

And even if it does, playing in a tougher division will just make the Chiefs better.

Had there been anyone on this team that has been hurt more from losing Sneed than Conner? Watson helped him but that guy has been forced to play the slot and he just can’t do it.

Sneed allowed Conner to keep everything in front of him and play to his strengths. Now that he can’t don’t that it’s killing him.

He's frankly not a slot CB, he's a S/CB tweener which has some value but he can't just be a slot guy. Something that really hurts is the CB issues have killed McDuffie's value because not being able to slide him into the slot takes a way a lot of his value.

Glad we're talking about the overall quality of the roster relative to others. It's early but the last 2 drafts don't feel stellar outside of the Rice pick. Probably not Veach's strongest work.

I actually think Veach's work in FA the last year or two has been more impressive than the drafting. As DJ says I don't think the impact players down the line look as strong as, say, the Lions.

We're ranked well above them in Offense and Defense, with only running yards they are a few yards ahead and with their RB1 out I'd drop them a few slots.

They do have the #1 defense by PPG, though. Held us to 10 points midway through the 4th last matchup.

crazy how they go from 12th (total yards allowed) to 1st (points per game)

Probably indicates their red zone defense is very strong.

Chiefs by 1.

Yeah, if you're comparing these recent drafts to the Lions, you're probably going to have a bad time. They drafted Hutchinson and Sewell at #2 and #7, and used the #6 pick from the Stafford trade to trade down to #12 and #34 for Gibbs and LaPorta. Kudos to them for not botching the drafting, but that's a metric **** ton of capital that isn't going to be the norm long term, just like our 2022 class.

Every safety on this team is not a coverage player. We literally have no FS on this roster.

All 4 safeties are SS that are like Conner and play well in the box and with everything in front of them.

And guess what? Teams know that and are attacking that weakness relentlessly. That’s why the blitzes are not working.
