Let's talk about the 49ers (Super Bowl Edition)

Discuss.

I've seen it mentioned a few times but SF and Miami run very very similar offensive schemes.

The Bills had a couple drives where they were constantly getting 2nd and 2s, but besides those drives, they were having to work for it and needed big plays by Allen to keep drives alive.
And spectacular TD throws. Allen might not be better than Mahomes (despite what Bills fans think), but he is far better than Purdy at this stage.

That's why Andy had these guys practicing in the rain and also outside yesterday in full pads.

He wants these guys ready. Spags isn't letting up on our guys. Tackle, tackle, tackle. We're preparing for business while the 49ers are busy whining.

Considering McDaniel is from the Shanahan tree that makes a lot of sense.

It's an interesting comparison, SF is better at RB and TE where Miami has a better OL and WR's, they both have weak armed panic prone QB's.

Allen made throws that game that were indefensible. Purdy is going to have to do the same thing to even have a chance.

Purdy can run which Tua cannot, but he isn't as accurate.

Yep, and the couple of lateral plays (even if one was a forward pass) and a couple of 3rd down runs.

Allen was a damn savant most of that game until the hero ball kicked in towards the end. No matter the QB, the question is always about converting 3rd and 5+ (or being so damn effective on offense you almost never have those, like the Chiefs, circa 2020).

And do you trust Purdy to get out of those jams, when through the air or on the ground, plus the coaching staff being smart enough to know when to treat those like 2nd down and go for it on 4th.

I don't think Purdy is capable of those throws, dude needed a horseshoe up his ass to get his big play against Detroit.

I think a better question is, how tight is Shanahan? Dude is knocking on the door of being Dan Reeves.

And yes, two of his picks in that game were tipped passes, but he threw at least one more that should have been intercepted (it hit the defender in the face mask) and another that really should have been (ball placed behind Samuel on a slant, tipped by him, hit DB in both hands).

This San Francisco offense is the same design it has always been; it just has better skill position talent than Shanahan has had. And Purdy is slightly better than Garroppolo.

If you get them off script or mess with the QB’s initial reads, you’re in business.

And Spagnuolo, whose defenses have consistently performed well against the Shanahan/McVay school of offense, is one of the best around at messing with reads and getting teams off script.
Spags is gonna put it all on Purdy. He's gonna have these guys stopping the run, tackling well and forcing them into 3rd and 5+ where he'll take away the middle of the field.

He's basically baiting Purdy into "are you good enough to make the tight window throws outside the numbers?". Basically, can Brock do this:

No, Mostert is not Christian McCaffery. But both he and Achane are faster than McCaffery in pure sprint speed, and they couldn't get shit going against KC on outside zone stuff in either of the games the Chiefs played against them.

I'm not sure a guy who isn't practicing because his toe is messed up is going to be a dominant in-line blocker in 3 days, but sure, Kittle is generally a great blocking asset and Trent Williams is the best LT in football.

KC still has performed consistently well against this scheme and has very rarely been dominated by it, despite predictions to the contrary.

Purdy still outplayed Kermit the Frog this season.
I watched Baltimore-San Francisco against last night. Purdy was unlucky on one of the tipped INTs (the second was good defense that popped the ball up) and also got lucky on two INTs that were not - one that hit a Ravens defender in the facemask, and another that was thrown behind Samuel and should been an INT.

KC's defense is more like Baltimore's than anyone else, and few DCs are better at creating confusing looks than Spagnuolo.

That's not a good combo for a QB that has been programmed to follow a specific read progression and trust it (which all Shanahan QBs are programmed to do).

He definitely is not capable of the 2nd TD throw Allen made. The only other QBs on the planet capable of that throw are Patrick Mahomes, Matt Stafford, and maybe Justin Herbert. The combination of escaping the pressure, sprinting to his left, and throwing with velocity and perfect accuracy across his body to a tiny window is just beyond even above-average NFL QBs.

Purdy doesn't have the arm to do that, but I certainly hope he tries to.

The 49ers probably think their blueprint is the Packers game...you know not accounting for Bolton and Tranquil both missing that game and Jack Cochrane being out there.
