Huh? Rex Grossman was back in 2006. Did you mean to say Dilfer instead of Goff? Goff started in 2018 against New England.

Yeah, you're getting tricked a bit by the talent around him and the scheme.

Which has made guys like Bubby Brister, Brian Griese, and Jimmy Garroppolo look like competent QBs at times.

Purdy is a good, steady player. But the lack of arm strength is an issue.

If you get him off schedule at all, he's not going to make the play on his own.

Well more recent comes first but yea the point is very few QB's that are like Brock Purdy start SB's and the ones that do generally lose.

None of that makes him great. He is above average but not close to being great.

There is only one great QB in the game today. #2 isn't even close to being great.

Which will be our biggest challenge. Their O is crazy talented. Our issue will be: Can we keep up? I like our chances.

LOL. I've watched Kirk for ten+ years. He got chewed out by John Riggins and Joe Theisman for being a stat padder. He's gifted at it. Purdy has fewer sacks, a quicker release, is more accurate (top five\six) than Lamar Jackson. If you think we're playing Trent Dilfer you're a ****ing bonehead.

I didn't love seeing him be willing to tuck and run in that Lions game.

If he continues to do that, he's going to extend a few drives. He was awfully impressive in evading the rush and knowing when to cut his losses and scramble.

As opposed to Lamar who was going to prove to us all that he's a pocket passer.

The Lions D is very slow, that certainly helped him in his decisions to run.

And as we discussed with Lamar Jackson back in 2020 when 24 of Jackson's 38 TDs were inside the red zone, Red Zone touchdown percentage isn't a repeatable skill set. Nobody's shown an ability in NFL history to maintain a superior red zone TD%.

Jackson certainly hasn't ever done it again and as a consequence has averaged 25 TDs/16 games thereafter.

Brock Purdy is, like Jackson, a 22-24 TD/yr passer unless he spikes his red zone TD% in any given year, as he did this year. But we know that's not a real skill but rather a statistical oddity.

He's...fine. He's a MASSIVE asset for the 49ers because he's an average QB making backup punter money. And like I said earlier, he can have moments of really good play because he's just completely fearless and fine+fearless will equal productive as hell for periods.

But it's also going to yield some pretty ragged football when he gets off-kilter. And he'll be easier to get off-kilter than a better player would be.

Purdy doens't worry me.
Look at how many times cmc scored, purdy is not like Allen who gets most of his tds in the red zone mainly with rushing, the 49ers will beat the chiefs

Yeah - their lack of team speed on defense was the most jarring part of that game.

They just didn't have any wheels out there at all. Anzalone had some speed coming out of college back before the injuries took it. Joseph times well but doesn't seem to play fast. Campbell, for all the "See the Lions were right to take a RB and LB in the 1st round!" stuff, looked pretty awful.

They just don't have much talent at all on defense. I mean really, John Cominsky is a starter for you? Guy couldn't see the field for an AWFUL Falcons defense but he's gonna get 700 snaps in Detroit? I had no idea Tyson Alualu was even still in the league. I have no idea why - he's been terrible pretty much his entire career.

That defense is Hutchinson, McNeil, Branch and a pile of dicks.
