Let's talk about the 49ers (Super Bowl Edition)

Discuss.

I expect Spags to have Purdy in hell, regardless of if he truly is a top-10 guy or whatever you consider him to be.

You see it all of the time in sports where the favored, more talented team that "should" win performs poorly and just barely escapes an upset in a big game. More often than not, that poor performance is followed up by a loss.

To be an armchair sports psychologist, I'd say the 49ers are coming off two of those types of games. They just haven't looked good in the playoffs.

They're walking into a buzzsaw if they continue playing as they did against the Packers and Lions.

Yup they haven't played hardly any good QB's this year.

Stafford threw 300 on them, Lamar dunked on they ass but what Chiefs fans should look at it is what Joe Burrow did. The Bengals beat the brakes off of them.

This defense is really a shadow of the scary one we saw in LIV. Their pass rush isn't as good as that year and their secondary isn't very good either, especially after losing Hufanga.

Again even with playing mostly bad QB's they are still 14th in pas defense. They aren't very good there

We're a great man coverage team. It's dangerous as hell to play man against either of those squads because the QB will run it on you. Purdy can run, but he ain't those guys.

So we can come out in simple man over coverage and play harder against the traditional run game.

The 49ers just don't match up against us as well as either of the two teams we just beat in their own barn.

Vegas be damned - the Chiefs SHOULD win this game. By 2 scores, IMO. Yes, the 49ers have better WRs but that's the strength of our defense. And the 49ers OL may have an elite LT, but they're not as strong elsewhere on the OL as Buffalo and Baltimore were. Their interior is nowhere near as good as those squads.

I don't see an area on the field where they win the matchup, IMO. And ultimately I trust our coaching staff to make any adjustments necessary to pull it out in the 2nd half far more than I do Shanahan and company.
Yeah, it's the whole styles make fights thing we've been talking about this year.

The Chiefs match up really well with that Shanahan offense.

Big, physical DEs who set hard edges against the run. Interior pressure guys.

Fantastic CBs who can play sticky man coverage or zone, and a CB room that has 2 All-Pro level corners, 2 more really good corners behind them, and a good and versatile S group behind that.

A deep and versatile and smart LB room that doesn't have a real weakness.

And a scheme that weaponizes all of it.

And as for the 49ers defense, they have an absolute stud DE, but the rest of the defensive line is average.

They have a pair of really good LB. The secondary is a significant weakness. Safeties don't stand out. One good CB, and the rest of the room is vulnerable.

And a scheme that has relied heavily on a zone scheme the Chiefs' offense is set up to absolutely blowtorch.

KC is going to force them to play a lot of man, and they don't have the personnel to do that.

Who on earth is covering Kelce? That's one of my first questions...he's gonna eat.

LaPorta was going off yesterday and they didn't go to him near enough.

If you don't get a chance to bet until after 5 pm today take Mahomes and give the points.

If you're smart, and bet in the next hour or so while it's even, you'll get a steal.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Once again the pressure isn't on us, it's on SF to dethrone the defending World Champs.

Meanwhile, Chiefs motivation is to go back to back,...and they have us an underdogs again?

I would love a blowout victory but the toughest playoff games in our prior 3 SB appearances were always the Super Bowl itself. I expect this to be similar. The 49ers have more playoff experience than the Ravens and are healthier than the Bills. I'd be surprised if this game ends up easier than both of those games.

You never know though. Purdy could end up falling apart like he did against Baltimore. Blowouts don't happen without many turnovers.

Their QB is like 23 and in his first full year starting.
Now he's going to have to deal with SB week, Vegas, and all the lights and cameras.

That's all before the game. That's not the SB pressure or the stadium or all of the spectacle. That's not QB'ing a team that just overcame it's 2nd deficit of over 7 points in their coaches' history.

He's ****ed. He's in a bad spot. I'm sure he'll be classy but he's destined to fail...

You are taking a mistake prone QB who literally brought his team back because of a fluke play...against a top defense that shuts down great QBs.

You have a SF DC that has no interest in blitzing, they rush 4 and play zone, he relies on Fred Warner to be super human.
