****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

The front office AND coaching staff therefore felt good about assuming that everyone would take reasonable steps forward year two in the system. They added a #2 pick (Rice) to a #2 pick (Moore), a '21 #1 pick (Toney) to have 3 young guys with upside. Returned two vets (MVS and Watson) as well as bringing in a WR with nice production in a similar system in Ritchie.

Set aside your personal feelings about this decision for a minute and consider this-

EVERY SINGLE RETURNING WR HAS REGRESSED TO THE POINT OF BEING ALMOST UNPLAYABLE. I mean, an ENTIRE POSITION GROUP.

I mean, what?

How is that even possible? They got WORSE, all of them.

And the front office and staff stood pat, saying they had confidence they'd get it together.

I have a lot of faith in Veach and Andy...but it's clearly not happening, and the only guy that you can count on to make plays is the rookie, Rice.

EVERYONE ELSE GOT SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE.

It has to be the changes in the coaching staff. I mean, doesn't it? EB rubbed some people the wrong way, but as sloppy as everything has been this season, does Nagy bear some scrutiny? Is he not as detail oriented? Beyond just the regression of the entire WR room, the rest of the offense has been penalty prone and sloppy as well. And the first year WR coach? How do you STILL not have guys running the right routes? Even the veterans?

I counseled patience all season long, but we're running out of runway here, and not seeing any consistency from anyone but the rookie. That makes no sense at all.

Long Juju Silver cannot have been THAT responsible for the difference between the #1 offense by almost every measure and....this. Juju, who can barely even get snaps on a shitty NE team.
But who actually got worse? Skyy didn’t play last year and Mvs was making these mistakes last year too. Watson wasn’t asked to do much last year but we always knew the guy was on the bubble at best. Best you can say is that they gambled on skyy and Toney based on really small sample size and they bet wrong.

I'm pretty sure I saw a personnel group on third and goal that was CEH, Moore, and James. I mean, what in the actual **** are they doing? The on field personnel rotation has been an obvious problem all year.

Moore is the same player he was last year except now hes on the field a lot more. He was a nobody last year now he’s a nobody running routes where he is supposed to be contesting jump balls down the field?!

That’s worse because he’s playing.

MVS is the same player he always was.

Toney is injured and not playing just like last year.

As for JuJu just take the L. Using what he does without Mahomes after his knees got worse doesn’t compute.

He was our number one WR and he wasn’t replaced with a similar player.

Rice is a better athlete but he isn’t being used the same way.

And last years group wasn’t good either. The goal should not be to try to tread water but to get better.

Wut? Moore has regressed. Significantly. Despite taking almost 100 more snaps as a WR than in 2022 he's just now matching his rookie production.

No, they're all worse.

Worse than they were in February.

Regression across the board.

Toney doesn't even play WR anymore. He's a gimmick. In 2022 he stepped in and immediately flashed potential that he hasn't shown ALL YEAR to date. MVSs problem was unreliable hands. Now he's just running the completely wrong routes as well. Something is seriously broken in the offensive coaching currently.

Juju was good here and in Pitt. I wouldn't hold what is happening in NE against him too much. NE could have Jerey Rice and I don't think he would do much. Their offense is a total shit show.

Let's bring in Mecole Hardman and do literally nothing with him to play to his strengths. No deep shots. No sweeps. ****ing NOTHING. This WR core is one of the lesser talented ones in the league, but the offensive coaching staff is exacerbating the weaknesses instead of mitigating them.

toney . . . ****, i don't know. i think there's a possibility that he's not picking up the playbook well. At all. I think he might be a great physical talent, with a 2-cent head. Other than that, I have no idea what Andy's doing with Toney, but he's a waste of roster space at the moment.

MVS was running bad routes last season as well. Go ahead and rewatch some of those games. note the wildly off passes in MVS' direction throughout the season. MVSs is not a good route runner, never was. But last season he caught a workable percentage of those deep passes, this season he's not catching any of them.

And let's not be overzealous: the coaching staff and Mahomes have likely been going over route adjustments (what Pat wants them to do in every situation) since Day 1 of preseason and probably every week since, and these WRs still aren't on the same page as Mahomes.

That's on the WRs.

Coaches can yell till their faces turn blue; if the players don't do their due diligence and improve, I can't really fault the coaches 12 weeks in.

Coaching very likely a problem but there is reason most NFL teams have vets and young guys. What vet WR can lead by example here? Show the young players what it takes to play.

Skyy is learning from MVS?

And lets be real. Rashee Rice hasn't been developed for shit up to this point. It's all WR Screens and Slants, and we could've been force feeding him that shit from the word go.

Toney was praised last year for how smart he was and how fast he picked up concepts. So he’s weird but not football dumb.

I don't want to start an entire thread for one play call, but can someone explain to me what the thinking was on the 3rd and 10 pass with 8 seconds left? WTF was that?

There’s also a reason most NFL teams try their damnedest to have elite offensive talent even with an elite QB…that’s how you win in today’s NFL.
