I'm actually a bit perplexed why it took the coaching staff that long to really hone in on Rice as the #1 this year. Or how the exact same room from last season minus JJSS regressed so badly. Hopefully the Raiders game was a harbinger and not a one off.

Not surprised they didn't want to push the issue early in the year but I was shocked they came our after the bye and had Justin Watson as their #1.

Strictly hindsight, but I'd be a bit disappointed if we actually had ended up trading up for Flowers and Addison was still on the board. Flowers is a very good player but given the circumstances Addison is a ****ing beast. And we're lucky the Chargers Chargered and took neither.

The narrative around the draft when Veach tried to trade up was that he was trying to get Mazi Smith with a small contingent saying he was trying to get Anton Harrison. These made sense because all reports were that we were trying to make the move with Dallas. Now we're 2/3 through the season and the narrative changed that we were trying to get Zay Flowers and to have both he and Rice. I find it to be no coincidence that Flowers is the other rookie WR taken high that's doing well and I also don't believe a ****ing word of it. If that's the case, we must have traded out of 6-178 to Dallas when we missed the boat on Puka Nacua (went 5-177), am I right? This is all bullshit. Flowers went 4 picks before Dallas made their selection, where we were reported to want to move to. We were never going to have both and it appears clear that wasn't planned.

Anyhow... moving on. Reid always takes it slow out of the gate with rookies. Always. The quicker they catch on, the more quickly Reid will increase their target share. There is a very real possibility that Rice is a 1k WR as a rookie, which is unheard of in a Reid offense. I'd venture to say he knows how to use him and that he's going to use him just fine going forward. It's not all roses offensively, but we've also been extremely spoiled the past several years. We're going to go through some growing pains, not just this year, but over the next couple of years. We're probably going to have young WRs again next year and we're going to lose Kelce sooner than later. Building a killer defense to absorb some of these growing pains offensively may prove to be genius.

Straight out of Veachs mouth. May not have ever gotten into serious negotiations but they at least doing due diligence about moving significantly higher.

“Jacksonville had that small move with Buffalo there ... but the teams around they were not interested in trading. And then teams higher than that, the asking price was a lot. And having picks the next couple days, having a two, three, two fours, we still want to deal in volume here and want to get some good players and we just thought it was the best to keep those picks and to have arsenal the next few days.”

Edit: forgot source.

LOL. Who legitimately said we were trying to get both Flowers and Rice? Do you create these imaginary arguments on your own?

And let's say we did get Anton Harrison. Maybe, just maybe, that would've freed up resources to get another experienced WR.

You have no idea what we were trying to do. We may have wanted to trade up to get Flowers - after all he did work out with Mahomes and do you think Mahomes would've been like, "This guy sucks"? And very possibly that didn't work and then we pivoted to a Mazi Smith as a Chris Jones replacement. And Dallas didn't want to deal and then maybe it was about Anton Harrison but the Jags took him next.

I'm sure every move that Veach has ever tried to make in the draft has been reported so you can have full clarity on everything he's ever tried to do.

Dude that car is 4200lbs. If it were 3,000lbs which is light it would be insane.

Its a quick car but much much heavier than 3,000lbs. My 65 Chevy II which is a small car weighs 3,000lbs.

About post 8121 in this thread there's a bit of discussion about it. Although as far as I can tell BossChief is the only one that tries to say the Chiefs wanted both.

Yes, BossChief said it was "his understanding" that's what they wanted. No one else agreed with that take.

But, true to form, chiefzilla says that's the new narrative around here that he feels obligated to push back against. It's extremely unhelpful for the discourse when someone throws something disingenuous out there that completely shifts the focus away from the true discussion.

Wouldn't we have likely lost the 2nd rounder we got Rice with to move up to get Flowers?

We'll never know who they wanted, but almost certainly weren't taking two WR's.
