They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Dude, I have managed as many as 1300 people at one time, and yeah, sometimes a little public pressure isn't a bad thing.

I believe in Praise in Public, and Discipline in Private.

However, there are time when your peers hearing that you could do better, actually makes them be better.

I am not rich like you, and I have barely rubbed elbows with players, but I understand how to manage people.
What do you think about spanking them with a wooden spoon or whipping out the belt every time they drop a pass?

TBH I think drops are something you work on over your career. You can't discipline someone for drops because it has nothing to do with effort. You can't try harder and have better hands just as you cant yell at players who miss too many FTs. Honestly if you do that the thing probably snowballs and they get more worried about it and don't play as confidently. I think in season the best approach is to convince the WRs their hands have just been a fluke and go play free...the results will normalize. Now in the offseason Im having them do drill after drill to improve those things.

IIRC, he screwed up a route or two that had Mahomes ticked off in the first couple of games.

Yes and our defense is good enough that we can still pull it off. But let's not kid ourselves that as of right now our offense is a problem. Our second half offense was really bad beyond drops, it's not just a one game thing, and we couldn't exploit our defense throttling philly and gifting tons of possessions and good field position. And I think even the most positive people by now have even acknowledged the obvious that once defenses figure out how to make us put it all on WRs we sputter.

It's a scary recipe for success if we can't figure out a second half offense

Do you think MVS walks away from that game feeling like he wasn't at fault at all and just needs more pressure from the public and on social media?

You can give some pointed comments in the locker room that get the point across such that your peers are well aware of what's going on. But commenting on things in a public presser isn't how you best send a message to the people inside the locker room because the collateral damage in that case can be unintended and material.
Yeah, that Dick Vermeil was a terrible coach, because he literally, publicly, called out Larry Johnson.

All Johnson did was become only the 3rd back in NFL history to rush for at least 1700 yards in back to back seasons.

How in the world did a leader of men like DV make the TwistedChief cardinal sin of calling out a player in public?

Parcells called out Phil Simms, and then Simms led the team to the SB.

Coaches call out players in public often. Why? To motivate them. Continuing to take the blame for the drops only makes Mahomes look stupid, and insulates the receivers from taking responsibility for the drops.

IDGAF that MVS posted a tweet saying it was his fault, because the reality is there is almost a 0% chance that he actually works on the issue in practice or afterwards.

None of the receivers seem to work on it. I feel this is the biggest thing we miss about EB. He held players accountable. Nagy just wants to be their friend. After all, Nagy said MVS was responsible for the Kelce TD because he does things that don't show up in the stat line.

LOL.

I love how you just moved the goalposts from the QB calling out receivers to now pointing out two isolated instances that haven’t happened in the last decade of coaches calling out individual players. As if two instances make it a very regular thing.

And a 0% chance that MVS works on catching balls in practice or otherwise?! Are you on drugs? Yeah, no one is working on anything ever. The coaches don’t coach and the players don’t practice.

From The Athletic:

Quote:
Beyond a lack of concentration from the receivers and Kelce, who has five drops, many of the drops have occurred when the pass catcher anticipates getting hit by a defender, often when the opposing defense is in zone coverage, which has happened on 69.6 percent on Mahomes’ attempts, according to TruMedia and Pro Football Focus.

But every practice for the Chiefs starts with the same drill, one that is designed to prepare the receivers for such moments. The drill requires the receivers to execute skills other than speed — quickness, soft hands and concentration. Each receiver runs a 5-yard hitch route that forces him to come back to the ball between two pop-up dummies. Next to each dummy is an assistant — passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier and statistical analysis coordinator Mike Frazier — with a pad similar to a pugil stick in their hands. As receivers coach Connor Embree passes the ball to the receiver, Bleymaier and Frazier attempt to dislodge the ball with their padded stick.
Dude, we get it - you’re upset and emotional about this. But you don’t need to say dumb stuff.

Awww, TEX. Still so proud of being perpetually miserable. Licking your lips in hopes that we won’t win a SB so you’ll finally be right! Coddle those emotions, little girl.

Do you believe that there’s an almost 0% chance that MVS works on catching footballs in practice or otherwise? Does that sound like a thoughtful statement?

"Receivers don't practice and work on things" is closer to a lack of object permanence than opinion.... we should be playing peek-a-boo with it, not dissecting its validity.

Does anyone know how many passes were completed within 3 seconds that actually went down the field? I feel like almost all of mahomes completions were either passes behind the los or mahomes making a completion on a scramble drill. Are mahomes 1st and 2nd read just not getting open? Does the defense have a good scheme against us? Is mahomes missing his read? I haven’t watched any all 22 film but I’d be curious to know why we can’t seem to execute mahomes completing passes to his first or 2nd read quickly.

Don't look now but Toney actually had a nice game against Philly. He got his 3rd most snaps.

He's a player and he's got talent. He also hasn't had drop problems since week 1 from what I've seen.

Get Toney and Rice more involved
