****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Maybe, just maybe that edgier dynamic Eric had with Pat and co actually worked better... maybe he kept everyone "on their toes" better, so to speak
I just don't buy it. When you actually dig into our WRs, which ones have actually regressed? Because all of them seem to be what they were. What they've always been. And last year feels more and more like we just hid their flaws really well. This year we've had no choice but to magnify their roles. None of these guys proved they deserve a bigger role than what they did last year.

I'd say by far the biggest change is Kelce is aging and defenses spent an entire off-season prepping, training and stacking personnel to stop our offense specifically. And yeah... Juju as much as we had to say it is a hole we somehow haven't filled yet. We can't hide our WRs this year. To me it's either nagy and embree are duds (which means you have to believe Reid, who is a micromanager, is a dud too) or the WRs just aren't very good. Which is the bigger fluke? Generational HC, QB, TE playing bad this year? Or bad WRs operating in a #1 offense last year? Choice seems obvious.

I'll give nagy and embree time. It feels way more likely that they will thrive with better talent than it is our WRs will thrive with better coaching.

Can't buy that when Rice isn't being targeted enough for a fair comparison, and raw stats aside I'm seeing absolutely nothing Juju does better than Rice

Something else is at work here IMO, and its mostly coaching IMO

Nagy just flat out sucks. I know Andy calls plays, but in the game planning sessions, Nagy must be in love with passes to the sideline, within 3 yards of the LOS, because he still doesn't ****ing understand that Alex Smith isn't the QB.

Also, Nagy is a ****ing chuckle bunny. He wants to laugh, joke around, and be everyone's friend.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing, except pairing that with a Head Coach who doesn't fire anyone, it's led to a very undisciplined offense.

This team looks poorly coached because they are being poorly coached.
Ok so what is the alternative? Throw downfield where our WRs keep ****ing up their routes? Inconsistent separation where mahomes sits in the pocket for 10 minutes? When we try to open the offense up our WRs prove time and time again they can't do it? For all this talk about WRs flying open everywhere when they get their opp they flub it and it kills possessions.

This isn't about raw talent.

From that perspective I think Rice will be better than last year's Juju.

The issue is will it happen by the playoffs or will it be next year.

As to what JuJu dd that Rice doesn't, he ran the routes they wanted and got open for first downs when needed. Rice's role right now is not that.

He is being used as a YAC play where they get him the ball and he uses his athleticism to gain chunk yards.

Our offense is missing a chain mover BADLY.

Just like when we lost a SB due to our entire OL, we're having another wasted year of Mahomes due to our entire WR unit.

How about a SLANT? A drag route? A shallow cross? Where did the jet sweeps with Hardman go? How about the pop passes that DAT and Reek used to abuse people with?

And our screen game is shit. We used to break a couple of 20 yard screens every game.

This offense looks absolutely NOTHING like the offense of the last 5 years.

Watch the All-22 and count how many times a quick slant or crossing route would destroy the defense, but all our receivers are running routes that are at least 12-15 yards deep. It forces Mahomes to hold the ball longer, and wears out the tackles because they are blocking for 3-6 seconds.

Andy Reid is everyone's father figure, and Nagy wants to be everyone's friend. Before, at least EB was in offensive meetings so he could hold people accountable.

I just can’t believe they didn’t do anything at the deadline to address the position.

If the staff truly believed this group was good enough to get it done as currently constructed then that’s legitimately terrifying.

Well then its past time to give Rice those same routes, he can absolutely fill that same role... Andy needs to take the training wheels off Rice and Toney, its become an absolutely stupid hurdle that should be easy to jump

But Nagy has faith in this group, he said so. Odd...

I wonder if they'll have them watch "how to catch a ball" YouTube videos so they can learn their job?

I didn't like they didn't sign a vet WR in free agency but I gave them a pass to "develop" guys because I assumed Veach would evaluate the year as it went on.

Just before the trade deadline it was absolutely clear they needed to add someone but Reid was quoted as saying they wanted to instead develop Skyy Moore and Rice.

Missing on guys coming out of college is one thing, missing on guys you can see in practice is much worse..it should never happen.

Dan O with a good breakdown. Watson and MVS aren't seeing what Pat is seeing. Also related to Hammock's post 7649.

How can Watson and MVS still be so out of sync with Mahomes when they have played in this offense with him for like 30 games.

And more importantly how does that improve or change?
