They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

It’s almost like maybe the WRs, Mahomes, and Reid all have some role in the regression. Like many of us have been saying. That it’s not just that our WRs this year are such a step down and don’t know how to play football. That it’s all more complicated and holistic than that.
Unknown. I can only speculate on that but the book on KC was to take away the verticals and make Mahomes be patient.

Maybe without Juju we don’t convert as much and don’t keep long drives going.

And everything I am saying is a generalization. Some teams did get aggressive but had poor coverage guys, didn’t account properly for Mahomes buying time, etc.

But the adjustments were made again and we have had no counterpunch so far.

I 100% agree with all of this. We finally have found our agreement, my friend.

The team hasn’t figured out a counterpunch with this group of WRs. That certainly falls on the group itself, but you can’t deny that Mahomes and Reid also feel out of sync. And that effective counterpunch makes Reid’s playcalling and Mahomes’ execution an absolute necessity.

We’d be better with JuJu, but we’d still be performing in subpar fashion.

Let’s see what we come out of the bye week with. If we sputter against the Eagles and then the Raiders, there are problems that just aren’t going to be corrected this season. And that’s fine and we’ll see how Veach addresses the off-season.

The fact is that we leaned hard into this catch and run thing. Ritchie James is catch and run. Toney is catch and run. Skyy was supposed to be catch and run. Rashee can run then catch but his role hasn't evolved there... Yet.

We need to adapt this offseason. In the meantime let's bandaid the thing and we should be able to be just good enough to do that
Juju has one functioning knee.

I have hope that Toney is going to be another answer in the playoffs.

Reid is a wizard so I’ll really interested to see if he some adjustments we haven’t considered… maybe it’s as simple as every 3 plays telling Mahomes to just buy time till coverage breaks and bombs away.

Who the guys will be is unknown but hopefully MVS can start catching some deep if teams leave their 3rd corner on him.

"Patrick Mahomes has done his best to keep the Kansas City Chiefs on top of the AFC through nine weeks of play in the 2023 season, and despite his self-inflicted struggles at times, he has consistently been let down by his receiving corps.
According to Bleacher Report Gridiron, Kansas City’s pass catchers have dropped no less than 24 passes over the course of the season."

Chiefs receivers lead the league in dropped passes.

So, Andy or Nagy's fault?

Let me do the same.

3rd and short in the red zone being the worst in the league?

Our WRs’ fault?

The knock on Toney has always been availability, not talent.

Now, the pre-season injury certainly complicated things. And perhaps when they ramped him up so quickly there were complications? Who knows.

But without knowing the reasons, I think it's fair to assume we could all agree that Toney's usage is just plain bizarre. I'm sure there's an explanation, and it's not simply "He sucks." Reid's not telling, because it doesn't give him an advantage to.

If Rice continues to improve and get looks, and Toney just was Toney again, and leave the gadget role to Hardman (where he's always been good), then I think that should be plenty to work with.

I have no idea why MVS seems to have regressed, he's not old enough to be aging out.

This is weird. The only one who appears to be a clear miss is Moore.

Rice looks like a keeper. Toney is a bizzarro world mystery.

I'd said before the season started, if Veach hit on one good WR, we'd be fine. If he hit on two, we're golden.

We're at one with another being just a weird question mark. Moore appears to be a miss.

Like a full third of those were in week one.

I don't think anyone's said week one was a good showing.

Maybe. i'd have to look it up. Dropped passes seems a little more straightforward though, no?

Here's another one: 63% of Mahomes' INTs were when targeting WRs. Andy or Nagy?

16 dropped passes since Week 1. I know we aren't supposed to set aside outliers, but if we did in this case, KC would still have the 2nd most drops.

You think that's just a really clear stat, huh? Really drives the point home.

Only if you don't know shit about football.

There are any number of reasons for this, namely that the TE is a GOAT who's got a supernatural knack for finding open spots in zones, oh, and passes to backs are generally swing passes in the flat, so yeah, far less chance of being intercepted. So even that means that Kelce/Gray/Bell are probably what, close to all of the remaining 37%? Three (well, mostly two) targets. There are 6 WR targets. Add in WHERE WR routes are generally run (this is why your RB target % would be low) plus the fact that there are twice as many of them and your number looks like what it really is-bullshit.

but you enjoy your statistics without any context, it's your favorite thing.

But does that translate to the field? We have no shortage of catch and run guys. What I'm not sure of is if we have good run then catch guys. Is toney that guy? He had a few downfield awesome catches and maybe that had us thinking he's more than he is. Can he do execute consistently? As in... Run the right route, read the defense, consistently beat his guy in structure. That seems to be a common theme with these guys and I don’t know that I’ve seen this kind of football iq from anyone other than rice and maybe Watson.

And that’s where I just want to see these guys pop. We’ve got to got to have the flexibility to push the ball because defenses don’t seem to have much respect that we can. we need consistency right now way more than we need lightning in a bottle

Really? You think we’ve been struggling on 3rd and short in the red zone because of receivers?

I realize you didn’t watch the last game, but really?
