They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

A: Ok this other receiver is also doing well on his team, we should have gotten him
B: No, clearly he wouldn't have done well here because of this reason ____....

A: Oh well, how about this other receiver, he's not doing great on his team but I think he would have been good for us
B: You wanted him? Look at what he's doing on his current team! And you wanted him?!? Clearly this means you didn't appreciate us winning the Superbowl last year and that you think we can't win the Superbowl this year and you're not a true fan!
Wow, this is nonsense. So few of these conversations are about fit and so many more are about the resources involved in getting these players and the timelines mentioned.

We have people here who are saying "we didn't even consider Amari Cooper" who was traded at a point where the team's central scenario was that it would retain Tyreek Hill.

We have others who are saying "we could've easily traded for Calvin Ridley!" despite the fact that we had traded for Toney days before Ridley was traded and Ridley wasn't even going to play last season down the stretch when we wanted help.

We have others who are saying "we could've easily taken a flyer on Adam Thielen!" despite the fact that it looked like he was dropping off at age 33 and the dude went for 2/18mm - not exactly a value signing ex ante.

We have others who are saying "we could've traded for Hollywood Brown" despite the fact that we have no idea if he was available and what it would've cost to get him. Ditto Hopkins.

It's people who are complaining just to complain without understading the real world context in which these decisions exist.

I fully understand being frustrated with our offense and our WRs this year. I think the bulk of it is indeed the WRs, but I also don't think Mahomes has played particularly well in isolation (by his standards) and don't think Reid has pushed a lot of the right buttons. The hope is the bye weeks helps them to self-scout and fix things.

If not, so be it. I'll only be upset is we don't succeed this year and then if this team keeps the same receivers in place for next year. But given Veach's track record, the probability of that is negative.

But I'm fully onboard with the team they've built thus far as I see the logic in all of the choices they've made for this year and in the future.

It isn’t hate, but it’s been casual indifference to a guy we worked so hard to put up on his pedestal.

The "anti WR" crowd isn't anti chiefs. We are relentlessly pro reid and mahomes. And it bothers the hell out of us if we can't meet a bare minimum of talent that even two HOFers can't yet figure out what to do with them. And we believe they are more than efficient game managers who can take what our defense gives them. Most of us believe it is a few small fixes but it begins with the belief that these guys drive the teams success versus using their greatness to carry their immediate supporting casts limitations
What? We all agree the offense is not as good as last year. The only real changes were really EB and JuJu, and we upgraded our tackles. These changes were addressed and nobody is throwing anyone "under a bus" other than the anti-WR crowd. Nagy is good, Rashee Rice is good, and the tackles are better than what we had last year but it takes time to mesh. Mahomes, the coaches and the players are mid season and we are seeing some improvement and I expect that to continue. This has been any rational persons stance since the beginning.

Agreed - they need more rashee rices and less specialists and glorified pure slot guys.
There's no need for a bandaid, that is gonna cost any significant money if you're gonna draft guys too. Just play the drafted guy, let him take his lumps and move forward.

Everyone looks at the money they're gonna have next year, when they've only got like 30 guys under contract. It's gonna be another offseason of moving and shaking.

They're gonna have to find a solution at LT going forward, the DL is all walking out the door, and there's some other big contracts on the horizon.

This is probably just gonna be life going forward at this point anyway but it's gonna take some maneuvering

How does Toney mean they need to "change how they evaluate WRs"? Talent evaluation was clearly no the issue, and they didn't even "draft" him.

This is reeruned.

It's Hardman, Skyy, and Rice. Hardly enough of a sample size to conclude that they need to "change how they evaluate WRs", especially considering Rice is the most recent one.

Well, trading for a guy that was a first rounder the year before, and went before you drafted would say they probably evaluated the guy pretty highly and would have liked to have drafted him.

They traded a draft pick for him. If you wanna argue semantics here, I guess go for it.

Whatever they've done in terms of eval'ing the WR drafts, or development or something has gone wrong. I don't know exactly what it would be.

I think it's more "they need to spend higher picks on more talented guys" than actually the evaluation per say, but was just sparking conversation.

And it was already well worth it, even if he doesn't turn out to be the player we hoped. Bringing Toney into the conversation is just ****ing dumb dude.

Again, how has it gone wrong when they literally just drafted a legitimate starter?

It's not like one fell into their lap either, they went up and got a very polarizing WR prospect.

In your opinion I suppose.

It's ok man, they make mistakes. No one is gonna fly a banner.

Drafting where they're gonna draft, they're gonna have to develop some guys because it's unlikely they're gonna get a guy that's a legitimate step in day 1 guy.

It's not impossible but if the expectation is genuine ass kicking 1k yard guy, that's tough.

The Chiefs are probably flying a Super Bowl banner because of Toney's punt return.

So perhaps they didn't make a mistake and will fly a banner.

The only legitimate mistake was Skyy.

And no, one "mistake" doesn't mean they need to change how they evaluate WRs.

You know this, which is why you kind of pivoted to investing higher, which is the correct answer.

It was a big play for sure.

But it's not as if they weren't moving the ball at will that half.
