****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Has anyone said there's no way the offense can't improve after the bye? If not not, then I don't think there's anything wrong with saying that SO FAR the WRs have sucked and that has led to a lot of what's wrong with the offense so far.

I don't get what's wrong with talking about what has been a problem and what solutions can be done to solve that problem. Maybe if it helps you the mods can rename the thread to ****"Our wide receivers have sucked so far in the season and in this thread we're going to discuss that and possible solutions that can be done in season and after the season and hopefully it will change. But discussing that has nothing to do with how elite our defense has been and how good the team is overall and our chances to win the Superbowl Official Thread"****

CJ stroud is producing where mahomes hasnt because he is chucking the ball. Hes among the leagues worst in accuracy and completion %. And even if his WRs aren't necessarily better on paper they're better for this type of game. Part of it is that sample size is so low that we haven't seen the lows go with the highs for stroud. But arguably it's also because defenses are rewarding him for this approach. Levis the same but we saw last week why this isn't necessarily the model for success.

The chiefs offensive approach is way better especially since we have a running game and defense we can lean on. But as much as we talk about mahomes taking what he's given he isn't dialing uo the aggressiveness. So is it because mahomes can't, won't, or he won't because his WRs can't. I think it's a lot of the last one. Skyy can't. Mvs makes too many bad decisions to be reliable on aggressive plays. Rice likely can but he's being used more as catch and run. It feels like we doubled down on being a catch and run team and defenses were hell bent on stopping that. Is it any surprise Watson has succeeded here where others haven't? I'd love to believe toney and Richie can solve the issue but they seem to be the same mold of an offense that wants WRs to create after the catch instead of before. To a large extent it feels like we're fitting round pegs through square holes because defenses adjusted and we leaned hard into their adjustment.

So I think to some extent we may have to recognize our limitations and lean into them anyway. It's not ideal but sometimes being aggressive with lesser options may be better than being efficient with better options

But you are glamorizing that stance while in order to convince yourselves that WRs are fine putting a ton of the blame on mahomes and Reid, and even hitting the point where we're throwing nagy under the bus and glorifying EB. Btw... That's carried into public spaces where the Mahomes is overrated crowd rears their ugly head. And our fans who normally pounce on this are reluctant bc god forbid it implicates our WRs. It isn’t hate, but it’s been casual indifference to a guy we worked so hard to put up on his pedestal.

The "anti WR" crowd isn't anti chiefs. We are relentlessly pro reid and mahomes. And it bothers the hell out of us if we can't meet a bare minimum of talent that even two HOFers can't yet figure out what to do with them. And we believe they are more than efficient game managers who can take what our defense gives them. Most of us believe it is a few small fixes but it begins with the belief that these guys drive the teams success versus using their greatness to carry their immediate supporting casts limitations

It's not a stretch to say that KC's WR group has not performed consistently well at this point. Nobody would disagree.

The OP and most follow-up arguments have been that this group of WR's SUCK. As in, from week one, this is as good as they can be, they have no talent, it's a garbage room.

Most of us on the other side have been advocating for patience; that the young guys are learning and while inconsistent, the talent is there and they'll get better.

I thought we might well struggle early, in fact, I thought we might be .500-ish around now. However, the defense has been much better than I thought-and I thought it had a chance to be very good.

WR's are vastly over-valued on the FA market, and if we're paying Mahomes AND trying to have a defense, the choice was to either beef up the OT position (they did) or pay market price for a plus veteran WR (they did not). Either way you go, you have to draft and develop the other. They chose to keep Mahomes upright first, and I don't disagree with that.

They look good in spurts, and then they disappear for stretches. It's maddenly inconsistent. I get all of that.

I trust Andy Reid, Nagy, and Mahomes to get it together.

I was widely optimistic coming into the season based on training camp reports and what I saw during pre-season but half way through the season I no longer have much optimism for this group outside of Rice and maybe Toney.

Hell I thought James would be our leading WR because he was really good catching passes from shit ass Daniel Jones.

Most of the best offenses that stay good, have alot of continuity year to year. That's why Mahomes and Kelce are so good together, they've been together so long.

They need to either get their shit together or replace some guys and go. They can't do the musical chairs shit year to year.

I think it's understandable for many to think our WRs aren't very good while trusting Andy, Reid and mahomes will figure something out with what they have. I don't think anyone in this room has really flashed potential this year except rice. That's where we disagree. And I get your reasons for not wanting to afford a WR but I still stand firm that dhop or thielen would've been an absolute steal given how much value they'd provide and that was easy to afford bc it was just a 1-2 yr fix.

I think we are more making it work because we made a miscalc and that's ok. Im pretty at peace with it because I believe they recognize the problem and they'll find a way to patch it up short term and veach will make it better this offseason.

People are gonna be pissed when they bring basically this group, plus a draft pick back next year.

They need to change how they evaluate WR's or something I guess going forward in the draft.

Most people love rashee rice. Hard to find a critic. If it's drafting another version of him Im fine. I still believe a bandaid is needed if we aren't confident they can contribute in year 1. But it's fine. If it means a consistent focus on refreshing the WR room through the draft and finding value steals, good. It doesn't have to be throwing money at everyone.

Agreed - they need more rashee rices and less specialists and glorified pure slot guys.
