They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

The went 31-33-1 over the next 4 seasons and blew the damn thing up.

Meanwhile the WORST 4-year stretch that we've had since Reid got here over a decade ago is 42-22.

This level of sustained success just doesn't happen. And because it doesn't, teams are constantly building on foundations of sand; they're constantly patching holes as they surface and as those are addressed, new ones appear.

It's why you don't see 5-10 year runs like we've had with any regularity. You don't see many teams that average over 5 years what we've averaged over 10. You don't see many teams accomplish over 10 years what we've accomplished in 5.

This league is just ungodly difficult. There is no panacea. There is no silver bullet. I've said this before but anytime someone says "Why don't they just..." I immediately tune them about because it suggests some level of ambivalence or outright laziness from the Chiefs. It suggests an easy button and as such can be summarily ignored.

Everything is a balancing act. The Chiefs lost a SB when their protection cratered. They won a SB with mediocre weapons. It made ALL the sense in the world to learn from those two lessons and do exactly what Veach did this offseason.
If Wentz didn't get hurt, and he continued to ascend, it may have been an Eagles dynasty.

Right now the Eagles have the best roster in the NFL. Howie Roseman may be the best GM in the NFL, with Veach at 2 or 3. I say 3 because the 49ers also have a better roster than we do, and have had the best roster for a few years. If Veach hadn't Carl Petersoned the wide receiver room this year, he may have taken that title.

Nate Taylor pretty much confirmed on Only weird games pod that all the reporters think that Andy is holding his players (Toney) and plays for the playoffs like a lot of us think.

Also Mahomes Q&A after the game has one question to Patrick about Rice. He said now they need to get him the ball downfield.

Yea, the 49ers are in a much better situation with their far superior roster in the middle of a 3 game losing streak. I won't even mention the Trey Lance trade, or the fact that they continue to go all-in, only to come up short.

Also, Pepperidge Farm remembers when Eagles fans wanted Howie Roseman fired for taking Reagor over Justin Jefferson and drafting an absolute bust in JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

Never forget that that 49ers staff went full Carl Peterson CHEUFS and chose to stick with Jimmy Grapes and draft a fatty over Patrick Mahomes

Everybody but Shanny Jr. would've been gone after that and the Lance trade if he didn't make Brock Purdy look like a solid starter.

And Veach doesn't miss?

And the Trey Lance trade up is terrible, but the 49ers, from 1 to 53, have had a better roster than the Chiefs for the past few years. Only this year we would probably be better overall, except our wide receivers are playing very poorly, and Veach could have done something about it in the off season and at the trade deadline. If Purdy never turns back into a carriage, he may turn out to have hurt them worse than Lance did.

At least the 49ers added a rent-a-player that could still help them make a deep run this year.

Does Pepperidge Farms also remember when Veach took Hardman over Metcalf, or Moore over Pickens, or CEH over Tee Higgins?

KC scouting has been $$$ on defense but they allowed Mahomes weapons to turn into shit because of all the misses on offense and they didn’t even replace JuJu, the cheap bandaid from last year.

They wanted to develop Skyy Moore and here we sit with a mediocre offense for the first time in Mahomes career.

Teams with mediocre offenses haven’t won a SB in a while.

Yeah I know but for teams with a number one that's probably pretty stable week to week absent injuries. Anyway we came into the season trying guys out, so no one guy was going to see the field that much, and the only one to emerge is a rookie who you don't expect to get that level of snaps. Good to see them adjusting now on the fly.

I just don't think the rotation is that big of a deal. It's the talent and lack of trust/experience with Mahomes. Hoping James might still be a decent chain mover option in this second half, along with Rice.

I never said he doesn't miss, but he's absolutely better than Lynch, who's had multiple top 5-10 picks to work with and build a team, on top of not having to pay top dollar for a QB.

I don't really have a problem if somebody says Roseman is better, even though I disagree. Just pointing out how quick those narratives change.

Love your work in this thread MM! I think you're overstating this though. Chiefs are fourth in yards per play at 5.7 (only giving up 4.8), which eyeballing the data looks to be more than a standard deviation above average. Credit Andy for having us seventh in passing play percentage helping there. If you don't like that we are seventh in yards per game.

The biggest difference is red zone and turnovers. Last year second RZ at 71 percent. This year 15th at 55. 1.9 turnovers per game, 30th, sheesh we're giving away two drives to TOs!

The metric I always look at is Points Per Play which is scoring efficiency. Because to me the #1 job of the offense is to score.

In both years we won the SB we were #1 in the NFL.

Last year's SB was a matchup of the #1 and #2 teams in the NFL in points per play in the Chiefs and Eagles.

This year we are 15th.

That is a terrifying drop off for the offense.

The 49ers spent 3 first rounders on a QB that didn't last 3 years and still don't have a QB. Lynch should be fired.

It is a significant drop off. They are averaging 23.1 PPG which has to be the lowest in Mahomes career and by a significant amount. It's currently ranked I 12th in NFL which is pretty much average.

Hopefully they can bounce back. There's still time before the playoffs to figure it out. I think Rice needs to become the go to WR. If he fails, he fails but I don't think Reids current emphasis on getting a guys like Skyy Moore and some others involved is simply not going to work. Toney is alright but I'd like to see Rice get more targets and def don't make Skyy Moore #1 read in any plays please.

Yeah, I prefer yards because of those end of game scenarios where if you're leading games you're leaving points on the table. But I do think the difference in yards versus points for us this year is more turnovers and red zone. Yards per play shows we are still moving effectively between the twenties, if we don't turn it over. 3rd down efficiency is actually good.

It's getting stuck in the red zone like we did against Denver, and the turnovers. That's a reason to be optimistic because those are easier to address than not being able to move the ball in general.
