People are hyping up JJSS when Rice is doing the same god damn thing he was doing last year, yet the offense is struggling.

Seems like there's a common denominator here.

Basically this.

The whole notion that the WR's are just so awful he can't make it work kinda goes out the window when it does work when he's decisive and anticipates windows, right?

Eventually you're going to have to find other chickens to **** if you're hellbent on refusing to acknowledge Mahomes and Reid/Nagy are contributing to the issues.
Mahomes, Nagy/reid need to be better. Everyone knows that. But mahomes and reid have a long history of being great. blaming nagy is basically blaming reid.the question is how far do you want to drag them down? Because it seems like people are content to drag these guys further and further under the bus to deflect blame from a WR group that frankly hasnt been good. I know you agree with the last point because you were way more bearish on them after the Miami game. It’s weird that those criticizing the WR room are these supposed pessimists but I guess it’s ok for mega threads about how Nagy and embree suck, and how reid and mahomes don’t just need to be better… they’ve been “need to get your shit together” bad. It doesn’t make that crowd more optimstic because they are spreading the blame to 10 difference places instead of 1.

Rice is getting more snaps but it hasn’t been the fix all because he still has some ways to go as a rookie. Skyy is getting less snaps, but that means putting Mvs and Watson on the field at the same time even though both will always be low target % guys. Rice/skyy snap counts haven’t yet fixed these underlying problems. There is still an issue with sporadic target shares until rice emerges as a true target monster and defenses have stepped up to where we need even more than that.

People want to share the blame because it gets us to “our WRs aren’t great but they’re fine.” And that just isn’t the case. There are a lot of people to blame but it is a chain. The WRs have played like bottom 5, it’s forced Reid to scheme around them, which in turn has led mahomes to deal with a science lab of constant rotation and WRs running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

They had quick timed passes the first drive and then stepped away from that and it failed.

Late in the first and then the 2nd half they started going back to it though on the Hardman and Toney passes.

Or maybe the entire WR room that is literally the exact same from last season sans JJSS taking massive steps backwards at the same time throughout long stretches might be indicative that it's NOT just the talent level and there are legitimate problems in the game planning and play calling.

Apparently we expect WR's to get Tyreek Hill type separation here to be "open".
By and large we have had great opening scripts in every single game. We’ve done this back when vermeil put together great opening scripts to work around Jordan black or when Chad henne has looked spectacular for a drive or 2 then looked below average once he gets into flow of game. It is easy to script guys open when you have a mastermind like vermeil or Reid.

Defenses adjust. We’ve had games where kelce started red hot then was flat out blanketed after Adjustment. We’ve had games including the jets where we focused on 12 personnel and we got Pacheco and gray heavily involved early. Defenses adjusted to find ways to limit these guys. Miami decided they were going to start mugging our WRs. We still targeted a lot of the same guys but it disrupted our timing and trust. At some point you can’t just scheme everybody open. You gotta rely on them to get open on their own and the one dimensionalness of our talent gives us way less flexibility to adapt to flow of game

Apparently only defenses adjust after the opening script now.

Also, given the incredible playoff success during the Mahomes era, the offense (but not defense) seems to have preseason intensity and focus levels for long periods, including a few entire games.

I'm expecting the WR rotation to be tightened down after the bye week. We really should be playing Rice, Toney, and MVS/Watson as the main WR group. Stop trying to get everyone in there. Give the other guys 5-10 snaps a game.

Holy shit, something I agree with BWillis on. This line is giving Mahomes tons of ****ing time, but he's just holding onto the ball. He's being indecisive.

Anyone got the all 22 clips(not screenshots) of all these WRs being open and Mahomes choosing not to throw the ball? I don't think Mahomes has been as sharp as normal but I find it hard to believe that he's just consistently either not seeing open WRs or seeing them and choosing not to throw to them.

I think on the list of what's wrong with the offense, he'd be after WRs and coaching. For example, there's no reason we shouldn't be spamming quick slants and other crossing routes with Rice the way we used to with Sammy. Or like Burrow does with Chase and Tee.
