They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

I think we ask mahomes to do just enough to win games behind a great defense and running game. It’s a statement I really don’t want to make again with a mahomes led offense. But for this season we have the horses elsewhere to still have a damn good shot at a Super Bowl

That’s fine and good chance it works. We can end the narrative by now that WRs are flying open everywhere. They don’t get open consistently and so mahomes can’t anticipate from snap to snap who to lock onto, and he can’t anticipate when the guy can get separation.

So we adapt. We run the ball more, a lot more 12 personnel (gray has a low ceiling as a wr but he’s effective enough). You put the big boy pants on rashee. He’s getting the snaps but we need to expand how we use him. Stop ****ing around with rotations and just give mahomes a consistent rotation. You gotta make do with a less than ideal rotation that has either skyy taking on lots of reps or Mvs/Watson on the field at the same time, which is less ideal. And you tell Toney or James to shit or get off the pot next year. We open up the creative playbook late in the season to scheme guys open. And we manage games so the defense can win them for us. It’s not my favorite approach but it will work. Then let’s get after this in the offseason and make offense priority #1.
That's on the QB who makes the most money in the NFL to figure out. The whole "they don't get open every play so he can't anticipate when they're open" shit just doesn't fly.

If we're gonna ask Mahomes to do that, we shouldn't be paying him what we are and should look elsewhere to find a Qb who can just manage a game for cheap.

Swap Moore for Toney and I agree.

Always been a bit strange to see some pin ALL the blame of the WRs and Veach for not getting even more than he already has. It's the same group from last year barring a switch from JJSS to Rice and that was enough to have one of the best passing offenses in the league. It's quite a bit more than just the talent in the room but the great thing is the majority of the issues are fixable and Reid/Mahomes both have shown the proclivity to right the ship in the past. We'll be fine going forward.

I think so too. As long as one of the WR's steps up to be a "go -to" guy like Ju Ju was. It looks to be Rice and he has a higher ceiling.

They ARE getting open though. A glance through All 22 shows this. We've literally seen Mahomes ignore wide open WRs to pass to a double covered Kelce.

Yeah people just keep ignoring this, because they don't want to criticize Mahomes, but he hasn't played like anywhere close to the best QB in the league.

Not consistently, they're not. Getting open is far different from being in their right spots. Sure, some of it is Mahomes, but the majority of it is on the WR's.

I guess Mahomes has just lost the ability to play QB. Open from a fan perspective is open to interpretation. When are they open? Did they adjust their route as needed? Does the QB have an angle depending on where hes at in the pocket. Bottom line is our WRs are ****ing awful and that is almost the sole reason the offense has sputtered.

Mahomes has bad stretches. Every QB does. For some reason people shriek and stamp their feet here when they get pointed out. There's also been stretches this season where he's played to his usual standard and magically the offense works great again and the WRs aren't a problem somehow.

I think it’s probably because he’s just too dumb to pick up the playbook.

But is there even a 5% chance that Toney isn’t getting reps because they no longer trust him to stay healthy and want to save him for the end of the season stretch?

I honestly have no clue. Moore has the exact same problems and is far more limited but they still force shit to him at times.

Yes it does. If mahomes locks on to skyy as a primary or secondary read 4 times and he’s not getting separation or in the wrong spot you can’t blame him for missing him the 5th time. For looking away from him or quickly looking him off. If skyy is making the wrong route adjustments a bunch of times, he’s not going to anticipate him that one time he finds a way to separate free. Every split second of anticipating is a thousand years in nfl time. And Mvs/Watson are boom/bust options. We know this. The majority of the time they don’t get separation. We just rely on them to break free a few times a game. At this point in their career it is who they are. So that leaves the majority of snaps where it’s really hard for mahomes to have any clue who to target.

And this is all by the way contingent on WRs separating. Most QBs don’t even need WRs to separate because in a pinch that can toss up 50/50 balls and ask their WRs to make plays.

The narrative is easy. Right now our WRs are playing like a bottom 5 unit. The whole “blame the qb for not carrying a bottom 5 unit” is shit that should not fly either.
