Let's talk about the Miami Dolphins

Here is my $500,000 question on this game.

Will Spags and Co play it straight and keep their powder dry for the playoffs?

Last season the Chiefs defense (and maybe Andy, don't recall) kept things very vanilla when they went to Cincy.

They lost that battle, but won the war, because the defensive wrinkles Spags wanted to use against the Bengals were unveiled in the AFC Championship and held their offense at bay just enough for gimpy Mahomes to drag us over the finish line late.

Will Spags come into this game guns blazing and try to take out the Dolphins early this season? OR will he keep his cards hidden for the real season?

Not sure if we're supposed to tell BWillie "any time you agree with chiefsshrink, you might have gone too far down the reerun hole"....

....or tell chiefsshrink, "any time BWillie agrees with your 5th grade grasp of sports, you might want to reevaluate".

I'm really not sure who would have the upper hand on room temp IQs here.

Oh, I know. But is Still looks and feels like an Alex Smiff-type offense. Many drives are much harder than they should be. And the scoring is way down.

BTW, what were they ranked in Alex Smiff's last season? I honestly don't know but if the stats were similar, I kind of have a point.

Yes, he had a great season when he was throwing it to a prime Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce.

We should get a couple of those.

This year yes, which is a damning assessment of the current state of the Chiefs offense... specifically the WR's.

Miami is the best red zone offense in football at a 74% conversion rate. We are currently 17th at 51% conversion rate.

We are fine moving the ball down the field. We are struggling to finish drives

There's a lot of room between saying the offense should and needs to be better and saying it's bascially an Alex Smith offense.

Again, nuance is very difficult for you. Everything is black and white.

They were high just sputtered in the red zone (like this yr) and on 3rd down. I dont think we are an Alex Smiff offense as I still have faith we can convert on 3rd downs (except the shorr ones) but this is nowhere near the high powered offenses under Mahomes we are used to. Its reality. Whether that is Nagy, WR regression, whatever. Its happened. We cant beat man coverage.

The crazy thing is we seem to have a decent amt of 20+ yard passes except to MVS. Our short yardage passing game has really struggled. Hopefully Hardman starts to help.

They will be fine... Andy will get them playing well... Patrick will be back to his old confident self... The receivers will remember that they aren't DBs and catch the ball... LBs will stay in their gaps and the DBs will get at least one interception... No special teams blunders, either...

It does feel like a close game.

Had they scored those 2 against the Jags and Jets where they kneeled it out, they'd be 8th if my math is correct

Red zone percentage is often deceiving... I know the Chiefs have kneeled down twice in the red zone, which in reality bumps that up to 57%.

The Dolphins were also a staggering 7/7 against the Broncos (insert reeruned aNd HoW dId ThE cHiEfS dO) while the Chiefs were 5/5 against the Bears before taking Mahomes out for the rest of the second half.

Not going to make up touchdowns for the Chiefs and magically take them away from the Dolphins, just pointing out the percentage isn't all that far off given small sample sizes and other variables.

Looks like they were 3/4 in the red zone against the Bills, but never got into the red zone against the Eagles... also a bit deceiving when you're 75% against the two playoff teams you've played, except not exactly in a good way across both games.
