You can’t deny that we’ve had a very favorable schedule this year especially for the pass offense.
I enthusiastically deny it.

The Jets just beat the Eagles. The Vikings just beat the 49ers.

We've played 3 top 10 DVOA pass defenses this year (Jaguars, Lions, and Jets). We've played 3 bottom 10 DVOA pass defenses this year (Bears, Chargers, Broncos).

DVOA takes into account the quality of the opponent and our passing DVOA rankings 4th in the league.

Oh jfc…. The passing unit we began the season with was not equally talented. In fact the top 2 WRs they wanted to feature have been duds. After all the hype from inside about how Toney is wr1 and how skyy looks incredible in pads, it was a misread. It’s ok - mistakes happen and Reid/veach don’t dwell on them long. What has made us ok is rashee being ready way faster than anticipated. And Reid giving him way more reps than he usually gives to rookies.

It was problematic which is why we are making adjustments. Including trading for a guy we didn’t even want in our top 7 to begin the season. Likely becoming a pretty featured guy in the offense.

If your claim is that this offense (if rashee barely played a role the first half of the season) was a proven winner with Toney and skyy as our top options outside of kelce you’re sugarcoating rhe hell out of this.

It's almost as if the team had a plan to give meaningful playing time to multiple different players to see who rises to the top while also integrating the rookies into the offense as the season progressed.

Your contention is all of that just happened by happenstance. Pretty much everyone else here feels it was by design.

Oddly, they tried to use Toney to replace Hardman and Rice/Moore have definitely replaced JJSS.

No, nothing changed in the thought process - simply in the execution. And with Hardman back to be Hardman, we're actually EXACTLY where many people expected us to be.

there's nothing revisionist or hindsight about it. The point was always that the strength of last years WR corps was overstated. The value of JJSS was WILDLY overblown and the rest could be carried over.
But you’re acknowledging it. Toney was elevated to a role he shouldn’t have been, skyy was depended on to carry most of the weight of the juju target share. The initial rotation didn’t work and a lot of people thought it would be solid until the long period to where rice was ready. These were misreads.

Playing the rookie up to 50% wasn’t expected and is very uncharacteristic of Reid. And we made a move for a guy we cut which indicates that veach didn’t think our current unit was good enough. How can you say anyone either of those 2 scenarios were expected this early? Because they are easily the 2 biggest things holding our pass offense up to the bare minimum standard of what we think they should be capable of.

Or maybe they had overconfidence that Toney and skyy were good enough to have their roles elevated that they could hold the fort down for the long period where rice would be ready. No I don't think they ever want to see that version of mahomes during that stretch again.

We know reid doesn't push rookies as quickly as he has done with rice. And we know mecole wasn't part of the original plan. These were not part of the original design. It is an adjustment to a blueprint that as we saw early on wasn't working.

Ok. Alright. This thread has been aids for like the past 3 weeks now and i've had enough of it. I'm jumping in this bitch.

Let me start off by eloquently addressing all of your points: WHO CARES.

Seriously.

Who ****ing cares if they got off to a rough start. It was fun to bitch about when it was happening but we're beyond that now.

The plan was obvious once we reached camp. The Vets that we'll ride or die with are MVS and Watson. Beyond that, it's one big bag of "who ****ing knows". Practice them, play them and see how it shakes out.

This is how it was ALWAYS going to be:

1st quarter: WR by comittee until players begin separating themselves.

2nd quarter (We're here): Players begin separating, snap counts begin adjusting

3rd quarter: The guys who've emerged continue to see an increased role, other guys slide into a complimentary role.

4th quarter: Ideally, we hit full stride, players are established and we go into the playoffs knowing exactly who they are, who's a REAL target and who's a compliment.

Going into this process, the Chiefs knew they had two vets and a bunch of talent. Of the group of Moore, Toney, Rice and Ross, it is RICE that has risen and separated himself.

It will be RICE moving forward. Everything is going according to plan. Chillax. Quit worrying about the 1st quarter of the season. This is what a youth movement looks like. And quite frankly, it's exciting.

There were and still are multiple contingency plans in place.

If Ritchie is healthy, and Watson is healthy, they probably don't go get Hardman.

If Toney had full camp, we're probably 7-0. But that's all neither here nor there, what happened, happened.

They've been using Toney more as the gadget guy. I imagine that shifts back to Hardman.

And again, they're going to give high picks full rein to fail. Moore isn't looking great. If that's what you need to call a mistake, alright, that's a defensible position. Rice looks ahead of schedule. Great! That's why you throw numbers at it.

And Rice is probably getting more snaps earlier because the veteran stopgaps are on IR or were underachieving. Either way, that's why you throw numbers at it.

So trying to argue some big mistake was made is dumb. There are and always were multiple contingencies for multiple possible outcomes built in.

25 years from now, Chiefs fans will be asking each other "where were you the first few weeks of the 2023 season when the Chiefs were at rock bottom and the dynasty was essentially dead?"

And all this, "Moore and Toney were suppose to be #1 and #2" BS needs to stop.

No, that was NEVER the case. That was talking heads and Chiefs fans making something out of camp fluff.

Both of those guys entered camp with massive question marks and absolutely belonged in our big bag of "What if's".

If you walked into the season thinking, "These are our sure fire guys, and if they dont lead the team then it's a disaster", well that's a you problem because that means you totally misread the situation.

It was incredibly lucky that the WR who the Chiefs aggressively traded up for in the 2nd round turned out to be the answer!

No way they saw that coming!

You would think Justyn Ross ended up being the answer

Some people are just desperate to be right.

I really think nothing would please 'Zilla, Megatron, and the other guys on that side than to have this entire WR room fail, so KC loses in the playoffs and they can all pound their chests about how right they were.

I promise you, the term #1WR doesn't come out of Andy Reid's mouth, ever. He's interested in skill-sets and how to utilize them to win games. He doesn't give a shit about individual stats.
