They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Yeah, it's been rough.

I don't think I've seeen him really throw one into a tight window in a long time.

Moore's given Rice an opportunity kick the door in and that's exactly what's going to happen. We'll see their respective snap/target share flip as the season progresses.

I still hope we get Hardman back to free Toney up to run more of the downfield stuff we used him for last season. Especially if we're just not going to use MVS as anything more than a decoy. The way we're using Toney is just really really odd to me. Everything's designed quick-hitters and gadget plays. He's being used like Hardman and that, to me, is a waste of his skill-set.
I mean we could use Toney like a regular wide receiver now and don't. I don't see why getting someone to do the gadget stuff would help Toney. It's not like we HAVE to use him in an exclusive gadget role now or even need an exclusive gadget player.

It's hard to wipe those 2021 games from memory, but the schedule was quite a bit different... they haven't played a team like the Bills or even Titans yet, and they did have multiple games in that stretch of putting up points.

He was throwing a lot of balls into the dirt for whatever reason and many of those drives against the NYG of all teams, Jordan Love Packers, Cowboys... we're just brutal.

I guess it would be an interesting comparison of numbers between the two seasons... feels like '21 was worse since they're still moving the ball pretty well now.... outside of the YOLO throws.

Yeah, they are using Tonry wrong. I hope they bring Hardman back too, because the Chiefs found a role for him that worked for both very well. And you're right, it would free up Tony to do other things down field.

We don't HAVE to, no. But Reid clearly WANTS to.

So if we're going to have the gadget plays in there (we clearly are) and we're going to try to limit the wear on Toney (we clearly are) and he's the guy best suited to run said gadget plays (I believe he is) then that's where many of his snaps are going to be allocated.

Kindof a simple math problem. I mean sure, you can assume that any of those statements are false and if so the whole thing falls apart - but I don't think they are.

So it's boxing Toney into that role and out of more dynamic ones. I think Hardman can help obviate those issues. At that point we can still limit the wear on Toney by keeping his snaps down while using him downfield more. We can not 'waste pitches' on him for gadget plays that Hardman can run (and likely run more effectively) and Reid can keep those gadget plays in his playbook since I still think he uses those in large part to set up other stuff to work off them.

With Watson out with a dislocated elbow I think you call about a trade for Mecole. That injury is gonna last awhile. At least 6 weeks IMO.

Come on home Mecole

Seems pretty logical. If it wasn't happening before, it should be now. Nobody else on the roster can fill that role.

If they want to limit wear and tear on Toney and they can only have him in one role, I don't know why they're choosing the gadget role instead of having him just be normal WR. If anything, he takes more wear and tear doing the gadget stuff. And it hasn't been successful in the least so far.

Is MVS’ favorable contract transferable via a trade?

If he’s released this coming offseason, it is a $14 million salary cap savings with only $2 million in a dead money salary cap hit… does all that apply to a new team if he’s traded?

If yes then maybe he’s an asset to a team in tear down mode looking to free up as much salary cap space as possible this coming offseason.

Packaging MVS with draft picks to get Terry McLaurin instantly upgrades the Chiefs WR situation for the stretch run.

McLaurin has a $24 million salary cap # for 2024 so that would need to be figured out.

I don't want Hardman back unless it's to take Washington's roster spot.

Absolutely don't want him if it's to cut Ross, who has shown a little something in limited snaps.

They'll never cut MVS, Moore, or Watson, so no thanks.

Sending him on reverses, jet sweeps, taking direct snaps is NOT the way to limit wear and tear. Quite the opposite. The Chiefs are trying to use him for something other than dropping passes.

Watson is going to IR I'd imagine so that takes care of itself.

Exactly - he's catching balls in traffic and getting hit by 2-3 guys on each touch. I would think if the intent is to limit chance of injury you would want him to catch the ball 10-15 yards down field and maybe 1-2 guys are hitting him, most likely safeties or corners. As it is now he's right in the path of DL and LBs. Surely that's not the reason. They tried having him involved in week 1 when he was just coming back from injury and it didn't work out, but that was probably from rust. Maybe Watson being injured opens up more opportunities for guys like Toney and Ross.
