They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

No I am just calling it out for what it is. You can cherry-pick clips all day long where WRs are open. But if that WR who is open doesn’t consistently get open or is unreliable about hitting his spots mahomes is more likely to look him off or stare down the guys he trusts. Yeah our WRs get open from time to time and with multiple guys like that there will be a number of snaps where somebody leaks open. But we don’t have a consistent option and that’s a huge problem, and rashee is probably the only one with upside to solve it. Who will leak open right now is completely unpredictable.

So mahomes operates out of rhythm. He doesn’t trust most of the guys on the field. And as we’ve seen time and time again when he is off rhythm he does dumb things like ignore his checkdowns.

It’s not that the WRs are getting worse. It’s that they aren’t getting better. We moved the ball “fine” because 22 of 39 passes were to our TEs and RBs. Because Pacheco is playing terrific. And because 4 days after kelce got hurt we had to feed him 9 targets. All of this against the worst defense in the nfl.

Skyy and Mvs are still snap eaters with minimal production. Toney has cleaned up the drops but is by and large relegated to a short catch and run guy. Watson is still the same guy - a nice big play target but not a consistent threat. Apart from cleaning up drops these guys have not changed. The only WR who has gotten better so far is Rice. Ross still has upside since he just hasn’t gotten the reps. The rest of these guys pretty much are what they are at this point.
What nonsense is this?

The WR's aren't getting better? Rice had 4 catches on 4 targets for 72 yards. That's pretty decent. No drops. Lotta yards after the catch. Looks explosive.

At this point in time, it looks like Rice is going to be a good one.

Skyy has been a disappointment thus far, no question.

James looked to be the insurance policy for Skyy suckitude, but he's on IR. Shit happens.

If you don't think Rice emerging is a good sign, I don't know what to tell you.

And yeah, there were missed opportunities with guys running open (ROSS for a long possible TD, for example.) So Mahomes isn't playing up to his own lofty standards. And yeah, the play calling was ****ing reerun-d. All of the manufactured shit for Toney was a disaster. I don't know why they just won't have him run ****ing routes, he looked really good doing that last season.

You want to argue that MVS is MIA? Sure.
You want to argue that Moore has underachieved? Absolutely.
You want to argue that Rice needs more snaps? I agree.

Hell, I'll argue that Ross needs more looks, too. He seems to get open often on a per snap basis (which is precious few snaps.) I get that the team wants to get their higher capital draftees going as a first order of business, but it looks to me like all the kid does is get open.

Nobody that was being realistic thought this was going to be a well oiled machine right out of the gate. Two new tackles, Bienemy gone, a very young WR corps-and all it takes is to be a tiny bit out of synch to look dysfunctional.

They built a defense that they could lean on while the offense figured it out. It's working, they're 5-1 and the only loss was by one point in a game with no Kelce and Toney dropping 8 balls after missing all of camp.

I said after the draft when all of you whiners were screaming that if we didn't get Dhop we were ****ed that if Veach hits on ONE of these guys, we'll be fine. Well, Moore has disappointed, but Rice looks like a hit to me. I'm looking forward to ramping him up.

Meanwhile, we've built a defense capable of dominating. That's good shit.

It is 100% a trust issue

You can pin that on mahomes if you want that he needs to trust them more. But it is impossible to deny it is by a mile the biggest obstacle with our pass offense right now

It's also hard to get them the ball on developing plays when the QB is going from "TE to checkdown" and not giving things time to develop.

Beyond all the other bickering and complete guessing in this thread, this part is true, where armchair quarterbacks find still frames with no context on progressions or anything else, and certainly can't see what Mahomes is seeing from his vantage point... all Mahomes has to do is slow down the game to single frames in the all-22 view and he could seriously pick apart defenses!

Of course, quarterbacks sometimes do miss open receivers, too... the all 22 hindsight gets obnoxious sometimes though.

Mahomes needs to run the ****ing offense. He's even said as much. If there are open guys, throw the ****ing ball. Yeah, Kelce can usually get open eventually, but run the damned play.

If I can go find 10 open WR's on failed plays, that's a huge difference in efficiency. I haven't looked at the all-22, but just from the broadcast I saw four or 5 and the Twitter post showed Ross with a step and a half down the right sideline. Now you can argue that by nature that's a low percentage play if you want, but if it's long bombs you want, there was one gift-wrapped.

Of course the WR's need to play better; they're young, they're learning, and if you can't see an improvement at all from week one you're blind.

Mahomes isn't playing up to his standards either, and last night particularly the play-calling did them no favors. We marched up and down the field and just stuck our collective heads right up our own asses in the red zone. Truly mind boggling.

The thing with the "wrs are open" stuff too isn't so much yes or no but when.

Ok you got open once he's progressed to the other side, that doesn't matter.

I’ve literally pointed out a million times that rice is improving and he probably patches a lot of our issues. And it’s a good enough bandaid if he does well with more reps. But the rest of the WR room, they are what they are aside for MAYBE Ross. I don’t think we need to dance around that point anymore.

It’s weird you think this post you made is a defense or excuse for Mahomes. I’m certain when they watch the film Reid and Mahomes will agree he was not doing his job very well last night.

How the **** is Rice a "bandaid"?

The entire implication of a "bandaid" is that it's a temporary fix, and not part of the long term solution.

It's like you can't acknowledge that the Chiefs have a legit WR2 of the future, possibly even a WR1. That's not a "bandaid". That's a very important piece of the puzzle.

Start this video at 1:05. The play looks to be specifically designed to hit Moore given they roll to him and Mahomes looks right at him and he is completely uncovered the entire play, including pre snap. There is no good reason to not hit him here.

I don't know what the **** they were doing with Toney, but it was really stupid. I have no idea why they won't just put him in the damned pattern, he looked great last year. So no, I don't think we've seen him.

MOAR ROSS! I agree. Looks to me like all the kid does is get open. A lot.

Mahomes is hyper competitive, and we've seen over the years that can lead to impatience and a reliance on streetball or 'hero-ball'. He's in one of those phases right now. There are plays to be made that he's not making. I have every confidence he'll sort it out, but he was definitely forcing the ball to Kelce some last night when there were WR's running free. I remember one particular 3rd when he threw to Kelce short and Rice was streaking across the field completely uncovered.

So, you know, he's amazing, but he's human, and they're not all on the same page right now. They'll get it right, I have patience and confidence. In the meantime, the defense is looking stellar and like a top 5 type unit, and the team can lean on that a little while they sort it out.

MOAR RICE! MOAR ROSS!
