Because he was actually pretty damn good. The only guy I noticed out there who seemed genuinely full speed and looked like a competent NFL WR. He was just moving differently. I wasn't really watching the OL/DL matchup at all and was only looking at routes/combos because I was curious how they'd deal with missing Kelce.

And as I was watching the routes, MVS looked noticeably better than anyone out there, including Rice. He was confident in his movements and in attacking the ball. It's maybe the one positive takeaway I had from the offense tonight. I could tell which one was him before I could pick up the numbers. He looked like a real handful for that secondary and just wasn't getting the ball for some reason.

Mahomes had him down the left sideline once for a likely score and then on a deep crosser that was a DEFINITE score. I mean it was as bad a missed shot as you'll see from a good quarterback. I bet it's in one of these clips out here. I couldn't believe he didn't pull the trigger. He was going from Mahomes right to his left and I swear Mahomes looked right at him - just wouldn't let the ball go.

MVS had me optimistic for him going forward. He looked legit.

EDIT: Well hell, looks like Clay mentioned the play I'm talking about already. Yeah - that was so very bad.
MVS & Watson both played well. I posted in game thread that Mahomes should give MVS a fancy dinner for that big time 3rd and Long conversion over the middle. The throw was setting up MVS to get absolutely killed by the secondary guys. Fortunately MVS bounced right back up after the play. It was a hell of a catch in a tough spot.

Yeah, Gibbs was ripping off 6 yds every rush. He had one in the first half that went for 8 yds, then inexplicably their OC called two pass plays in a row that went for nothing, and they had to punt.

It was like they had Gibbs on a really strict pitch count.

Same with Brown. He made some nice plays, but it was like then OC was saving him for some reason.

I thought they called a strange game offensively

Yeah - that was a Buechele in the pre-season pass. Just good enough that the WR is gonna have a play on it, just late enough that he's gonna take a SHOT to make the play.

MVS, for a guy who takes shit for being 'just a deep threat' has demonstrated a willingness to expose himself in his time here. I really do like him and hope that he and PM can continue to develop chemistry. I think there's 1,000 yard potential there.

The Lions played 2 deep constantly with zone. Kelce would have neutered the shit out of the middle of the field forcing them to rethink having 2 deep.

When they change it up Mahomes usually goes deep to MVS like we saw one time last night.

If Kelce plays we probably score 30 on them

They might not have made it past Jacksonville or Cincy in the Playoffs without MVS coming up with huge TD plays on 3rd down.

I’m still curious to see how he plays off kelce. Seems his value is in a role of catch and run, and kelce opens up a lot of stuff underneath. From there decide if skyy or James is better suited.

And I'm gonna cringe at the number of times 83 found space in that game. I sure felt like I saw him open out there and again - we just didn't pull the trigger.

Losing Kelce after installs and everything really screwed our pooch. That's just such a tough thing to have happen that close to gametime. And it clearly impacted Mahomes.

Had he had a week to acclimate, I think he's much sharper. But 48 hours prior to gametime (and with it being in the air up until mid-day), there was just so much that we couldn't meaningfully change in our offense. And Mahomes/Kelce have an historically great chemistry so without that, things were just different.

Yeah, that's a walk over if Kelce's out there.

I would actually kinda like to see how he performs without Kelce AND a full week of installs.

Because really, Kelce and Moore will occupy the same space a lot. And there's a world where you can use Moore in those areas of the field in lieu of Kelce.

There just wasn't time to get it done this week.

The short timelines involved here can't be overstated. It really ****ing sucked.

Kelce certainly changes the dynamics, but this guy was billed as a route runner so he should be able to get open more often than not, with or without Kelce

All the camp reviews were positively glowing, its just puzzling why that didn't translate to the field last night

Not sure what thread it was but I certainly did. He is our best WR and doesn't make sense why he is only getting 2 targets.
