We need to talk about 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1.

I'm not lying when I say that I'm more confident that we'll convert 3rd and 17 than 3rd and 1.

Why? What's the blind spot here? If nothing else, should they just pretend that every 3rd and 1 is actually 3rd and 17?

In the thread below, indulge me and tell me what our go-to play on 3rd and 1 should be.

I'll start. Mahomes option right with a running back wide of him. We'll convert that play 97 percent of the time.

Seems so crazy to turn so gimmicky to try and manufacture that yard instead. There's no evidence it's a better strategy.
Every other team either QB sneaks and has 2 big ****ers shove him forward (while it's still legal) or they line up and let their halfback get the yard. And it's nearly impossible to stop. We have a highly paid offensive line and we play like pussies in those situations. "Snow globe" and every dancing and shifting around. Just line up and get a damn yard. Shouldn't be this hard.

I love Andy but I sense hubris with his play calling. Sometimes you just need short yards and it seems he wants it to be some unique play so people can talk about the creativity.

I still wonder why our vaunted big 3 in the middle can't ever get a push in those situations.

If Andy was coaching the Chiefs in the 90's, we'd be running jet sweeps with Danan Hughes instead of handing it off to Marcus Allen on the 1 yard line.

It's not like we need to run that particular play. We could do just fine without ever running a QB for the rest of Mahomes' career.

Just run it. Run a dive play. Run any sort of running play. Run a playaction pass from under center. Run an RPO. Whatever. Why does it need to be a trick play? Just get the yard.

Lol, yeah, and Allen wouldn't have put up with that shit. I bet Pat is pissed as hell about having the ball out of his hands so often tonight. He needs to have a come to Jesus with Andy and Nagy after tonight, and maybe ask Veach about his plans for the receiver room.

Rather than keep a 7th WR who spends his time dropping short passes and holding his helmet - maybe just keep 6 no-account WR's and add a mediocre fullback to 'get the job done' from time to time. C'mon Andy - you don't get bonus points in heaven for doing without a fullback.

This shit hasn’t changed from EB to Nagy so we definitely know it’s Andy calling these dumbshit plays… as if there was ever any doubt.

Only on Chiefsplanet do we think the answer is a fullback

Maybe if they’d let future HOF player Justyn Ross play they’d win

For a while they did exactly that. They had that big oaf at FB. Burton I think. And they ran him up the gut and he moved the chains. Until one time he didn't. Then they just gave up on it altogether.
