VARSITY
We need to talk about 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1.

I'm not lying when I say that I'm more confident that we'll convert 3rd and 17 than 3rd and 1.

Why? What's the blind spot here? If nothing else, should they just pretend that every 3rd and 1 is actually 3rd and 17?

In the thread below, indulge me and tell me what our go-to play on 3rd and 1 should be.

I'll start. Mahomes option right with a running back wide of him. We'll convert that play 97 percent of the time.

Supposed to have the best interior offensive line in football… can’t get a yard just running Pacheco up the middle?

If you’re gonna put Belldozer under center why not just run the Philly scrum and push him across? Keep it simple. Fancy sure ain’t working.

Just have Gabbert or Bell do the QB sneak if you won’t allow Mahomes to do it. It’s much higher probability than the trickery.

It is far more likely to happen again to anyone who had the injury before. But Mahomes has all kinds of weird stuff with his knees every game, so you probably can’t let this injury probability impact your playcalling.

JUST LET MAHOMES DO IT

The injury risk is so microscopic that it boggles my mind that we refuse to go back to it.

Give the ball to Mahomes and let him figure out a way to get 1 yard.

Seems so crazy to turn so gimmicky to try and manufacture that yard instead. There's no evidence it's a better strategy.

I don’t disagree, but if Reid refuses to do that, there are still way better options than fancy stuff.

Andy Reid is one of the most brilliant football minds that the world has ever known, which makes it that much more frustrating when we see stupid decisions like this in key moments.

Victim of his own success.

I trust him to make a play with his legs or arm more than I trust a defense to fall asleep on a trick play in a key situation

We need to talk about 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1.

Our WRs being terrible and dropping everything seems a bit fluky. Those terrible play calls and CEH playing time are not and that’s what’s really scary.

Defenses have to be prepared for these cute bullshit plays on short yardage downs against the Chiefs, because it almost seems like we are afraid to run the plays that are like 90% successful in picking up the first down.

We could do better with a randomly selected play than our 3rd and short calls

I would rather just run a 3rd and 10 play on 3rd and 1 than do the shit we've been doing for a year in a half on short yardage.
