Yeah, most non contact knee injuries result in hyperextension of the knee.

Which usually leads to.....other things.

I like to think this is going slow not because we don’t know the results but because we have to face a tough decision on whether to play him in 2 days.

They're not gonna let out anything of that nature if it's not serious.

Just GTD it at that point. I'm just waiting to hear on the seriousness side.

Yea I'm not so sure about that. Usually when a guy blows out his kneee he is twisting or planting to turn.

The longer they go without ruling him out the better obviously. (Duh)

That's why you do the MRI.

If there's any chance of aggravating it or compounding the problem, you sit him. But to know if that's the case, you can't just ask him "How's it feel" because it can feel a little loose without any real structural damage.

But if you get an MRI and there's any structural damage - even if fairly light - that would increase the likelihood of making the injury worse. So now it's not a question of pain tolerance - it's knowing that you really should shut him down, even if it's only a week.

I'm guessing the immediate MRI is to determine how aggressive they can be with his playing status. If he blew it out, we'd know it by now (typically laxity tests will tell you that before you need an MRI) and you probably wouldn't even DO an MRI until after a little swelling subsides in the next few days.

I'm still not too worried here...

Meanwhile at the Chiefs practice facility, a lone janitor locks the front door and switches off the lights after the last person leaves the facility for the day. After the thread on ChiefsPlanet did not reach the 1,000 post threshold required for the MRI to be read today, Chiefs staff called a lid until Wednesday afternoon.

Technically, he was limited in practice because he didn't finish.

They aren't required to report anything further. Even if they list him as Questionable for the game, it doesn't mean we're in the clear - they could still be debating the results.

DJ's right, we probably don't want news - because that means it's a season ender and no reason to hold info back. Otherwise, they're just playing the mind game and it's frustrating AF.

I'm no knee scientist, is it possible to hyperextend the knee without light damage? It seems like something is getting pushed beyond where it should be for the hyperextension to be possible.

I had one playing baseball in my teens. Got hit at home; hyperextended it. It was sore but I played the next day. It really felt more than anything like a bone bruise but the knee felt fairly stable, fairly quickly.

I wasn't 35, though - may be a different animal.
