Week 1 - Let's talk about the Lions

Looks like the Chiefs are 6.5 point favorites according to Vegas.

How do you see this one playing out?

Yeah, Andy has been scheming new stuff all off-season. He likes to test drive the new concepts in week 1 to make sure they are good with the new personnel. Then he wraps them up and puts them away for critical situations and the playoffs. Week 1 is the one week all year when we can count on seeing a good portion of the play book.

He’s also downplaying the Charger game when Mahomes won AFC Offensive Player of the Week in his second career (first meaningful) start.

Sounds like Ross will be active so we could probably see all 7 WR's active

Who will be inactive? The guys they claimed after cuts? I think Morris will be inactive most of the year. Maybe Allegretti or Calliendo.

And, sounds like they have a plan to have him be active going forward. Toub doesn't like to move guys on and off teams.

I'm officially pumped for this game.

The Toney news made me feel so much better about the Chris Jones situation.

If we're going to be without CJ for several weeks, the offense is going to have to score a lot of points, and with the new OT's, Toney, and the rest of the young weapons, they can absolutely do that.

Of course, Toney has to actually stay healthy now, but as it stands today, I feel much better going into the season without CJ reporting than I did a week ago.

Blitzes only work if you get home. Lions O-line has elite level athleticism. The pocket Jared had to work with last year was a thing of beauty. They line is healthy and strong right now, without having to double CJ they should keep Goff clean all game.

If you blitz heavy and leave ASB one on one Goff will find him all day.

Mahomes has 2 NFC losses regular season in his career both on the road. Seattle and the Rams. Goff doesn't have the weapons on offense or defense he had last time he faced Mahomes.

I agree re: Blitzes. That's standard. You have to disguise and get on the QB quickly, while doing things on the back end to muck things up.

Spagnuolo is one of the best around at just that.

Goff is very accurate from a clean pocket and when things are on schedule. If things break down, he doesn't have mutant physical gifts to just make something happen (Allen, Hurts, Mahomes, Herbert, Jackson) or unbelievable calm and poise (Burrow, Rodgers).

Which is why he's in that next group of QBs.

Chiefs will have to shine at disguising and have some good wrinkles for dealing with the gap scheme of the Lions' run game. One thing they've used against gap in the past is lining up a LB in the 0 gap to force the C to engage head-on rather than double-teaming and then working downfield.

I am intrigued to see if KC trots out a modified 3-3-5 without Jones that features Bolton flanked by Chenal and Gay, who have speed and power to function like a DE in the run game.
