Nick Bosa is holding out for no.1 or no. 2 defensive player pay. All the dorks in this thread say Chris Jones and his inexperienced agents are dopes because Jones is selfish and his agents do not have enough star clients to know what they are doing. And then all the assholes say Nick Bosa and his agent with the star client list that includes Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson are smart and that Nick Bosa has never missed any of games he missed and is so much more impactful than Chris Jones. You guys are nuts, can't even get up the nerve to question Nick Bosa and his agent's tactics at all, at the same time badmouthing Chris Jones and his agents, and they are using the same tactics.

The difference is the CBA punishes the shit out of a holdout during your 2nd contract. Bosa, who’s on his rookie deal, isn’t analogous. |

Nick Bosa. Is 25. And entering the prime of his career. And looking to re-set the market. As he enters his prime. Which is when. A premier player. Should be able. to reset the market.
Slow enough for you? What part of 'overplaying your hand' has been lost on you here? Chris Jones is going to be 30 when the extension starts. That's LEAVING his prime. You don't re-set the market on a player LEAVING his prime. I've said all along - pay him a little more than Williams or Lawrence even though I think it's likely they'll get you a better return than Jones over 4 years (they must be lighter skinned black guys, eh?). I never begrudged his decision to stay away UNTIL it was being reported that he was staying away because the Chiefs wouldn't meet his exorbitant demands. Tactics are one thing but to request $30 million is simply overplaying your hand badly. It's bad work by his agent. And if Bosa is out there saying "well this is clearly what the market that was set this season suggests I should get but I won't sign unless I get a 20% premium over that..." then his agent is likewise doing a poor job.

Does anyone think the Bills made a good decision overpaying Miller? You over pay aging players and it’s just not going to work out.

Why are you still comparing salaries of two different positions? I just don't get it. You remember when Spags had Jones slide out to play Bosa and Watt's position? Yup he couldn't do it. Exactly the same would happen if Bosa or Watt was asked to play DT, they wouldn't be as effective. Edge rushers: Top 5 contracts average $25.4M Defensive Tackles: Top 5 contracts average $22.7M On average the top 5 Edge rushers(yes this includes black players like Garrett and Mack) make about 15% more than DTs. Should the top corner be getting paid $30M as well? Hell Stephon Gilmore won DPOTY a few years ago!!!!!! Did he demand to be the highest paid PLAYER on defense in the NFL? NOPE because thats not what corners get! Howard was a finalist just like Jones....Highest paid defensive player? NOPE because he is a corner! Even Donald wasn't the highest paid defensive player in the NFL before his crazy contract because he is a DT! Throw Jones out on the edge and let him pull his ears back and non-stop rush the passer and if he puts up the stats of the top DEs in the NFL, then sure give him top edge rusher money! But wait they tried and he couldn't! Jones should get $24.5-$25M Bosa should get $29-$30M Thats what there positional value is! IF Veach pays more, he over paid. If 9ers pay more, they overpaid. Very simple to understand! |

Jones was elite last year and he is going to be 30 when his new deal kicks in. He will be at an age where his talents start to diminish and he wants to try and clean up on last huge payday at a position of lesser value. It's not so much as getting #2 DT money as it is getting it at a smidge below Donald's contract. |

Yup. I want Jones to stay for 2 years but not at 30 mil per and over 60 guaranteed. He's too old to get a jump like that.

Most critically is that all 5 of those deals were signed within the last 4 months. THAT'S the market. Now what I think his agent is likely leaning into is the exorbitant franchise tag number that Jones had next season. The guys who signed this year didn't have that. They had either 5th year option figures or they had a $22 million(ish) franchise tag number. SOP for a lot of agents is to START with the franchise tag figure for the following year as essentially locked in place. With another $10 million in franchise tag numbers, I could see his agents saying "top of the non-Donald Market is $24 million; $10 extra million spread over 4 years is $2.5 million so $26.5 million is what we want...." But that ignores the fact that Hargrave, a very similar player at the same age as Jones would be just hit the free agent market unencumbered and signed for $20 million/yr. If I'm Veach I split the difference and say $25.25 million/yr is a puke point for me. It's fair by any definition. The market is as set as a market can get. The Donald contract was universally and summarily ignored by every team looking to get a defensive tackle signed/extended. It ain't racism, Jettio - it's ****ing math.
