The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Hopefully we finally get word of being traded or him showing up tomorrow. That said, if his agent is in town that seems like it would indicate something is changing, meaning he’s not just showing up to play out his current deal or else maybe not much reason for his agent to visit.

Good question. But unless his agent lives in KC, it's a fact that he's there to talk to Veach. Since Andy just told us a few days ago that there wasn't any conversation," I think that a good sign.

I think we are going to make it though the day without a new Chris Jones thread.

From what I understand, once Jones is placed on the reserve, did not report list, his base salary comes off the cap. Yes, once he reports, his salary gets added back. But every week that he holds out, his game check would come off that total. So the Chiefs shouldn't have any trouble getting under the cap at the moment. As soon as he goes on the rdnr list, the Chiefs will have $20+ million. If he really holds out until week 8, then the Chiefs will only have a cap hit of around $12M at that time. Maybe less. I'm not sure about how the $2M in fines works. Would be nice if that came off the cap, but I haven't found anything clear about that.

I wonder how much money Mahomes is going to save the Chiefs over the course of his time in KC.

Trading a top 10 player in the league would never be a viable option with pretty much any other QB.

The Chiefs have a ton of power to negotiate with these guys because of Mahomes. Just look at the rosters that some average to good QBs have needed to even appear in the Super Bowl, let alone win it (twice even).

Trading expensive players for cap space and picks is almost always going to be a solid option when you have Mahomes. Enjoy it, boys.

Let’s pretend it’s April 1. You wanna repeat as champions.

Everybody was sweating the WR and OT positions. No one worried about Jones.

If I told you we trade Chris Jones to have solid bookend tackles and the deepest WR group of Mahomes’ career - both groups an plus advantage…

Would you say the Super Bowl was out of reach?

Jones posted an IG story of Tupac talking about how people can’t be trusted and that they’ll eventually show their true colors. Seemed honey-badgerish. Shot at Veach?

Im not surprised CJ is holding out. I am surprised he's also resorting to all the cryptic messages. I never took him to be a little bitch boy, like Honey Badger, but that's exactly what he is.
