The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

Time to let Jones eat it. Selfish BS. Will easily cost the Chiefs home field at the very least. I also agree he will give it a dont get hurt effort when he does show up.

Please dont tell me they need to " take care of their family". That slaps every fan in the face!

KC needs to start forcing guys to negotiate their deals prior to the draft. No deal then trade them. Make that a clear message. Waiting till later hurts the team long term. KC has lost the opportunity to sign another free agent or two. KC has other players to extend next year at top dollar.

Kelce is more valuable and plays for half what Jones wants. Yes I know TE get less. If you had to choose Kelce or Jones who would you keep? Jones is a selfish ass.

I really want Chris Jones on this team. That being said, if he comes in and gets hurt in week 4 or something I'm going to be livid. I know it's likely not possible to know if he'd had the conditioning of camp if the injury wouldn't have happened, but I'm probably going to think that way.

I'm not about the number or much about the rules for the cap but I think there is an issue once the cut-down time has come. The Chiefs may be over the cap, I'm not sure. Anyone here know? I know they have < 1m in cap space right now (top 51) but I think they have to add to that number with the other contracts for the total amount (not just top 51). CJ might be forcing the hands of the Chiefs to either drop or extend other players or pay him more money? I'm not a cap expert so I may be totally wrong here?

Can't do that right now. We can only work with his base salary which is 5.5 M.

This is just a question, if the Chiefs use the did not report designation for Chris Jones, anyone know what are the ramifications of doing that? I know he wouldn't count against the 53 man roster but what would that do to his salary, chances of signing, trading, etc...

The idea that KC couldn’t still win a bunch of games without Jones for 7 weeks is ridiculous.

Not really ridiculous in the big picture. Sure they can win games. But in the AFC, the margin for home field is razor thin. Maybe you lose a game or two that you normally wouldn't. And maybe the AFC Championship game is in Buffalo or Cincinnati next year. That's why its a huge deal and Jones is indeed a selfish ass.
