The fate of Chris Jones 2023 edition

Appears the Chiefs and Chris Jones are at the beginning of a contract dispute

Speculation has been that the two sides are "far apart" on a deal

So Chiefs Planet.... how do we think this will play out (poll coming)

Will the Chiefs pay up and meet Chris Jones demands? If so, how much will it end up costing?

Will the Chiefs not be able to meet Chris Jones demands and end up trading him? If so, what kind of haul can we expect?

I've really loved watching Chris Jones wreck shit for the Chiefs, it always sucks when the business side of the NFL forces teams into tough decisions.

Yes, but dont need any malcontents.

Are you willing to lose Creed and Bolton to pay Jones his price? I wouldn't and neither will veach

So there are two options: 1. he plays this year under the current contract and the Chiefs can decide to tag or trade next year, and they restructure another players contract to free up some marginal cap space. 2. Jones signs an extension. I'm fine with either.
You guys can keep saying Jones has little to no leverage. Doesn't make it true

The Chiefs know they need the guy to win SB's. That's ultimately, their goal.

They can't tag him next year, 33 million dollar bomb on the cap all at once pretty much takes them out of signing any free agents.

It's basically either sign an extension, or let him play out the year then walk.

Back-to-back DE's in the first rd last 2 years and signed Omenihu who is one of the leagues better interior rushers.

It's almost as if Veach planned for this possibility. Next season if you have to trade Chris then those 3 are still there with money opened up in FA plus trade asserts to keep adding to the DL.

That makes sense, but I wouldn't. I dont deal well in any arena with folks showing up that dont want to be there. At some point it goes toxic. Now, if he could manage to show with no ill will, Im with ya.

What leverage does he have?

If he sits in actual games he losses a ton of money and will leave huge question marks as to what he'll be on a new contract. He'll also be 30 at that point, if a 30 year old DT sat out of games and halfassed it when he returned he wouldn't get paid..by anyone at least not at the level he wants.

It's a non issue right now because he has to report before the season and play his ass off...also this idea that if this is his last year here the Chiefs run at SB's is over is really laughable. I'm sure the Chiefs are a bigger SB contender if they lose several young ascending players because 33 year old Chris Jones is making 30 mill a year.

Yes Chris Jones is A fundamental part of this team.

In what world is the best player on your defense by far not a fundamental part of the team?

Bro without Chris Jones Mahomes will be lucky to throw 15 touchdowns all season long.

let me put this more simply...

The Chiefs can lose any single player except Mahomes. There is only ONE irreplaceable player on this team, and he doesn't play defense.

If the Chiefs lose Chris Jones, their super bowl odds won't change.

I don't see how that's even debatable. There's no team where the 3rd best player on the team and best player by far on defense isn't fundamental to the team winning a championship.
