2023 Chiefs Training Camp / Preseason Megathread

The back to back journey begins now.

7/23: Toney dinged up, young receivers look decent, Prince flashes, Justin Reid added a bunch of muscle
7/24: Toney to likely miss the preseason, Rice shined, Prince shined, Skyy shined, Tranquil to play all LB spots, Nazeeh Johnson had 3 PBU’s
7/25: Toney had meniscus surgery; Nazeeh Johnson got looks with 1’s, pushing Josh Williams to 2’s and then Williams shined with a pick; Rookie Nic Jones picked off Mahomes, McDuffie is shining - young corners are balling; Buechele playing well; Butker 8/9 on FG’s.
7/26: Receivers are playing really well; Justyn Ross had a 1-handed grab; Rashee Rice "looks the part;" (Nate Taylor); Bolton had an illness; Fortson having some focus drops; Nazeeh Johnson still with the 1's; James & Remigio are returners; John Ross retired - young bucks lookin' too good.

With no Toney at practice, I think you have the other 6 listed. Maybe not in the correct order, but I am not sure I have seen a clip of a pass play where anyone other than those 6 were not on the field with Mahomes. Most of the clips have MVS, Moore, and Rice as the 3 receivers. At least the ones I have seen. A few with James. And a couple with Ross and Watson.

Do you guys actually think all these receivers are more talented than Toney, or are you ordering them by expected yardage?

Expected yardage mostly for me. I think Toney will be a great weapon for us for about 9-12 games this year.

I've had 4 of the same meniscus surgeries he went through today. From skiing. Even if he was in peak shape with full strength in the leg he had knee surgery on this summer - the same one he had done today - it's going to take awhile for him to be 100%. I think he'll miss a couple games or if he rehabs it quicker than expected and plays in the season opener it will likely be in a limited basis.

I know it sounds crazy and I know it's early, but we're going to be fine at WR this season even when he's not on the field. JuJu and Mecole were not that great. Rice is the real deal, James is a chain-mover and quick, and I think Skyy is going to look like an entirely different guy with a year under his belt. And MVS balled out in the AFC Championship game and he can build on that confidence Mahomes had to gain in him from that performance. And who knows with Justyn Ross? We all see the same videos. He looks like he's back 100%. I just don't want to count on him for anything.

Okay gang,

So, the young CB’s finished strong last year, and one of the main stories of camp so far seems to be that the young corners are playing really, really well.

McDuffie
Williams
Johnson
Jones
Watson

… if that trend continues all season, I don’t see how/why we pay Sneed even though I love him.

It’s a great problem to have.

Hell, even the young safeties are playing well in Conner and Cook.

Also, is Johnson a Safety, Corner, or both?
