2023 Chiefs Training Camp / Preseason Megathread

The back to back journey begins now.

7/23: Toney dinged up, young receivers look decent, Prince flashes, Justin Reid added a bunch of muscle
7/24: Toney to likely miss the preseason, Rice shined, Prince shined, Skyy shined, Tranquil to play all LB spots, Nazeeh Johnson had 3 PBU’s
7/25: Toney had meniscus surgery; Nazeeh Johnson got looks with 1’s, pushing Josh Williams to 2’s and then Williams shined with a pick; Rookie Nic Jones picked off Mahomes, McDuffie is shining - young corners are balling; Buechele playing well; Butker 8/9 on FG’s.
7/26: Receivers are playing really well; Justyn Ross had a 1-handed grab; Rashee Rice "looks the part;" (Nate Taylor); Bolton had an illness; Fortson having some focus drops; Nazeeh Johnson still with the 1's; James & Remigio are returners; John Ross retired - young bucks lookin' too good.

Maybe the reason Mahomes hasn’t been that type of QB is because he’s never had a WR capable of consistently winning jump balls. That’s why I’m so intrigued in particular with seeing Rice and Ross in pads and live action. Theoretically one or both of them have that potential based on body type and video from college.

I think Rice is a pretty well rounded receiver but compared to Skyy Moore, Richie James types he's more of that throw it up and have him catch it guy. Hope Mahomes and Reid will trust him to make plays in the right spots.
I just picture stuff like when Mahomes hit Fortson on the wheel route in the game against the Chargers.

Mahomes is fine putting stuff into tight windows if he has targets who came win at the catch point.

Mahomes is continually adding to his game. I’m glad he isn’t primarily a jump-ball thrower, but if he has personnel and matchups that work for it I would bet he’ll add it to his arsenal.
