Your wunderkind coach could have ran the ball on 4th and a foot also. Hell Pat would have picked that up on the ground with an obliterated ankle.

I think you sidestepped my question. Do you not believe that the Bengals have one of, if not the best, receiving corps in the NFL. You don't think it's an advantage for your team?

Wrong. Mahomes has been good with poor protection too. Even in the SB vs Tampa, with the worst OL in playoff history, he was making incredible plays left and right. Unfortunately his receivers were dropping TD passes that hit their facemasks.

Mean for laughing at Kentucky’s misfortune? That fanbase has talked relentless shit on KU for years. There are probably three KU threads on the first page of Rupp Rafters as we speak.

Of course they do. I get where your aim was. You're not going to agree that Burrow could have done what Mahomes did on that team so that's why i answered the way i did.

It's not always as black and white as your question implied. I posted some time ago what Burrows stats were when the line was protecting him last year, before all the injuries set in. He was clearly QB1 in that stretch.

Which distinction one would expect from a QB with arguably the best receiving corps in the NFL, no?

Sure. Best receiving corps + protection = elite.

And sure, Pat would do just as well if not better in those circumstances. I've never argued that Burrow was better. Not seriously, at least with where we sit right now.

That was my point. This thread started because Chase said something dumb. Pat is a unicorn and Joe is a good, maybe great, QB but he isn't Pat. Pat would improve ANY team he is added to and that includes the Bengals. Now the amount of improvement may be less on the Bengals than any other team (not my argument right now) but he is a unicorn.

The point isn’t to make excuses. The point is that Mahomes can still produce at a really high level despite poor protection. The only piece of evidence to the contrary is a game vs a loaded team in which his receivers dropped three TD passes that hit either their hands or facemask. Is he supposed to catch the ball too?

His line was poor for much of 2020 and he still went 14-1, put up great numbers and went to the SB. Hell, his tackles weren’t even very good last year. He (and Reid) just made them look much better than they are. You’ll find that out soon enough.
