Attending my first Chiefs game

It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally planning to make the big trip to visit Kansas City from Australia to see my Chiefs play. With this thread I'm mainly keen to suss out the seating situation at Arrowhead, but any general advice or useful information to know when visiting Kansas City would be great to hear.

I've been in touch with a ticket rep, so generally know how the ticket buying process works and I'm ready to grab a couple of home game tickets shortly after the schedule is released this week. I plan on going to the home opener, so I have my fingers crossed that there will be at least two home games in the first three weeks of the season. A couple of basic questions I have:
  • Where are the best seats at Arrowhead? Either midfield or an endzone might be the obvious choices, but if anyone can provide specific advice on this that would be great. i.e. best value seats for the price, best view of the field/team, etc. I'm aware the ticket prices are high at the moment but it is what it is.
  • Is there anything to do at Arrowhead during the week when games aren't being played and during away games? I.e. tours of the stadium, Chiefs related events, etc.
And about the City:
  • What are the must do's and must see's in Kansas City? Chiefs related or otherwise.

Aside from Chiefs home games, I'm hoping to catch at least one Mizzou and/or K-State game, as well as a Royals game and Sporting Kansas City match (depresso I know, but when in Rome right). A trip to the Pro Football HOF would also be on the list if at all possible. I'll probably bump this thread a few times over the coming months with more questions, but decided to get the ball rolling by hearing what the upstanding Kansas Citians of the Planet have to say first!

Cheers

There's nothing like Arrowhead in prime time... and damn, the home opener of the defending champs.

Get there as early as possible. If the gates open 5 hours before kickoff, tailgate for 4+ hours. Soak it all in. Eat BBQ until you hate yourself. (just don't drink so much you don't remember the game). Get to your seat early and soak in being that close to the field, behind the Chiefs bench, and catch all of the pregame stuff.

Same here. Travelling from London to New York for our week 4 game against the Jets. I'll be doing the chop amongst all the home fans.

I'm still processing that I actually have tickets to see my Chiefs play. Time to sort out flights and a US visa!

I'm tossing up whether to go to the NYJ game in New York. Would make the trip fairly long but what a game to attend...

A side trip to NYC would be amazing. I was looking at tickets to that game since I'll be fairly close, and personally wouldn't spend that kind of coin on a regular season game ($750+ for lower level mid field, $275+ for upper deck end zone), but those prices could come down in the first few weeks of the season.... if I were you, I'd consider booking the trip and doing NYC things, and then try to grab some last minute tickets. If prices are still insane, you've still made a great side trip and can catch the game at a bar or something.

Yeah, some of it is just shouting at clouds, because $220 is about what I paid for AFCCG tickets at Arrowhead against the Patriots. It's obviously the price of Mahomes now just for a regular season game, but I lean towards saving up for the playoffs.

New York is an amazing city if you have extra time to visit there. The museums are incredible and you can just walk around and have a good time looking at stuff.

I was there in December walking around some museum and then all of a sudden in one room you see Van Gogh's starry night. Wow.

Someone should notify the local media so that they can come out and interview our Aussie Chiefs fan so he can become a local celebrity. And no, I'm not talking about the KC Star.

Could be a good plan. If I can fly back home from NY for a decent price that would help.

The price of being blessed with Patrick Mahomes. I was definitely tempted to take a risk and aim for a later season game or a playoff game. I actually almost did that for the AFCCG for the 2019 season but it didn't work out. That would have been amazing to go to.

But in the end, for this trip, I decided earlier in the season would be better despite the games probably meaning more later in the year. The Dec/Jan cold, the potential snow and how that could affect driving, and the horrible thought of Patty or Travis or both being injured later in the season and not getting to see them play after having committed to the trip long beforehand. Plus the ring ceremony nudged me further toward an early season visit.

Reminds me of one of the four Canadians who came to the game back in 2009. He was so drunk he passed out in the back of my dad's vehicle. Of course, they had tailgated and drank before and during the Royals game before tailgating for the Chiefs game that night...lol.

Agreed. Would never live there, but it should be a place that is on everyone's bucket list to visit once in their lifetime.

Do not miss New York if you have any chance to visit. See Manhattan and also go to Brooklyn Heights and walk around the Dumbo pier area. It's a great place to see the Statue of Liberty and that area is super cool and fun.

You will absolutely thank me if you go to Brooklyn Heights. You'll have a way better day than you will in Times Square.

Definitely will be!

I used to be a decent video editor back in the day. So I'm hoping to buy a GoPro to record my trip and edit together a nice video if I can resurrect that skill.

I'm planning on booking flights this evening, so chances are I'll have six or so days in New York at the end of September. Exciting stuff. Cheers for the suggestion.

Once I have a draft itinerary together I'll post it here for further thoughts and suggestions.
