Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

That's my thinking. We just can't go with a JAG and a couple of rookies.

Of course they're going to do something, it's just not going to be paying some over 30 WR a bunch of money.

It's probably not going to be something that you all are totally comfortable with. But we don't watch every practice, we don't sit in on every meeting.
These guys know what they're doing.
Again, Veach hasn't shown that he's scared to pay somebody some money. He's just very careful about who he pays.

And signing either OBj/DHop solves the most problems with one player.

Which reminds me. Anyone want to see Andy call more slants? you want to guess who the best slant WR is in the NFL? The best at beating press? Clue: his name starts with a 'D.'

But here's the problems with both OBJ and Deandre. OBJ is a singular loud personality that demands a lot of targets, and that will be a big reason for him to come to KC. He's going to want as many targets as he can get, because he needs to reset his market value in the one or two seasons he's with KC. And when he doesn't get those targets, he's going to make noise about it. or his dad will, or whoever. And he's pretty much always been a boundary WR. So not exactly the guy we need to replace JuJu. I think it wouldn't be that hard for him to figure it out, but it's not his wheelhouse.

Then we have Dhop's lack of interest in practice. Now maybe that would change in KC, but he does have that history, at least in ARI. But that could be related to his QB/HC situation, I don't know. But it's there. And our draft picks just aren't that enticing. Even if ARI says we'll take a 5th and a 6th, would they take ours? More likely we'd have to bump those to a 4th and a 5th, maybe even a 3rd and a 4th, because those picks are dead last in each round. Not sure Veach will go that far, but whatever.

So both would come with certain issues. Which are probably the biggest reasons I personally don't see either coming to KC, not the money.

You're literally figuring on the same path I am. So arguing about the why's and hypothetical stuff is pointless.

We both figure they'll sign a guy/trade for a guy on the cheap, bring back JWat, and draft a guy early-ish.

The only difference is, I thought that from the beginning. I just thought Hardman would do his one year deal here, because it made the most sense. I guess I didn't count on how much of a dumb-ass he really is.

Veach might have waited their market out. Maybe we do get him for Brandon Cooks type compensation

Yeah, we're close.

The difference is, I think it's still possible that we sign an actual real WR, not some middling JAG that just barely meets the need. I would rather we sign DHop and just force every DC into an impossible situation every week. No more squeaking by the likes of DEN, LVR, BUF, or CIN. No more 20-point games.

Just overwhelm them. Leave them all nothing more than smoking wrecks by the roadside. And let's be honest, $17M/yr for a couple years (or $15M/3years!!!) is basically clearance sale prices for an elite WR.

And isn't our half-billion dollar QB worth it? Doesn't he deserve to have nice things? Shouldn't he be able to have a few games every season where he doesn't have to do it all by himself?

I think he is. Maybe it's just me.

Hardman knew his role here and it was a gadget guy who had become second to Toney. I don’t think for a second this was his best option at comparable money. I would’ve done the same if I were him.

This is exactly right. Just because Mahomes can be a god doesn’t mean he should have to be 20 weeks a year.

Get him Hopkins. Just do it.

I just think Bleach has something set, but it’s not anything any of us have thought about. A trade for a player during the draft? Just think he’s got an ace up his sleeve!
