Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

I don't see Veach getting into a bidding war over either of two over 30WR's, neither of whom have finished a full season in two years and one of which, OBJ has finished 3 out of 8 years.

You want to come in cheap, rehab your image, show you can stay healthy, and win a ring, come on in. You want money and guarantees? Probably not.

You want a #2 for Dhop and we have to pay him? Probably not.

It's already being reported that the compensation the Cardinals would get for Hopkins is going to be much closer to the Cooks trade, like so tried to tell you!

They aren't and never were getting a 2nd.

Counting Toney for anything more than a role player depth is pure foolish at this point. Sure he has elite talent, but jfc he can't stay on the field

I didn't imply that at all. I said the Chiefs want a $4m vet receiver. That has nothing to do with what other teams are offering. That's what they want to spend.

If they can get one of these guys to count for so little against the cap, they'll move on it. If not, it's on to the next.

And i happen to think neither of these guys will play for that. So, as i said an hour ago....on to the draft.

You're being really ****ing hard headed about this lol

My point is very simple. If that's all anybody else is offering him as well, then what is stopping the Chiefs from getting him?

Who says they have to pay him? Even Hopkins himself has said that he's willing to work with a team on his current contract.

The Cowboys traded for Cooks, then restructured his current deal. Who's to say that isn't an option for the Chiefs and Hopkins?

Agreed. #1 if he can stay on the field. But…. He hasn’t proven that in his career, so far. The deal for him has already paid off in spades. It’s all gravy now.

Some of you guys man...in many ways we get very lucky last year. The receiving core wasn't as good, things were issues at times and that was with JuJu and Hardman..but mainly because of how good Kelce is.

Now we lose 2 guys and Kelce is a year older and some of you just think it's not an issue. Dude said this wasn't the hardest year he's had and the response is to just expect more from him?

The approach that we can just throw anyone out there because of Mahomes and Kelce is how you get bit in the ass.

Keep drafting and developing young guys, and the WR1 stuff will sort itself out.
If Toney can prove that he can stay healthy for an entire season, I may believe he has WR1 potential, but until then, I don't see it.

I fully understand thinking Hopkins and OBJ weren't likely two weeks ago. They both seemed like expensive longshots.

But their markets are coming to us. Their value is coming down. And we have an obvious need.

It's really hard for me to believe we're not banking on either of them when we let JuJu walk for that contract.

I'd take a bet that we get Hopkins or OBJ versus the field at this point.

I think it's more likely now than ever as well.

Either way, I think they inevitably invest significantly at the position.

Like I said, absolute worst case scenario is a guy like Corey Davis and a 2nd round WR.

But I think OBJ/Hopkins or at least a 1st rounder, are very likely.

at more than they want to pay, obviously.

We're going to have to grow our own, I think.

But it's not worth arguing about. Veach and Reid will do what they feel is best and we'll have to see.

Toney COULD be a #1 WR someday and if he can stay healthy but its a pretty big leap to make such a projection. We need a reliabe WR option. It is a must. DHop is that.
