Do we want DeHop?
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21
Story by Andrew Gould The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins. NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first. After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason. Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June. Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy. Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season. Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Do we want a high priced prima donna? |

It’s just not going to continue to hit on this many picks, no matter who is drafting them. It would be something that has never happened. They know that, they’ll use said picks to max the value and add here and there. They’ve already done it with the Toney trade.
They’ve got Toney, Mvs and moore at wr for a total of like 17 million dollars. They can afford to take a swing if they want. With them being able to draft the way everyone thinks they will continue to is just more reason to go get highly paid players. Why would they put “scrubs” around these other guys if they’re gonna draft and develop so well? Don’t we trust them to draft guys? They aren’t gonna trade all their picks, they’ll still have a bunch. |

This has to be the dumbest ****ing metric i have ever seen used. Tyreek hill played for a hall of fame coach and a hall of fame caliber qb for 3/4 of his career. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m also not saying I’d trade for Hopkins in particular
He’s older and I’m not interested in that. But if they wanna swing at another wr or something and pay a premium, I’d listen |

I'd much prefer to keep Mahomes upright, kill opposing QB's, and draft our weapons for these next couple years. In '25, when Mahomes' cap number comes down to a more manageable 13% or so, then you can take some swings. For these next couple of seasons, this is going to have to be the way unless you want to go full Rams and just live with a couple of shit years of cap hell after. I think that's a stupid thing to do when you have Patrick Mahomes in his prime. |

This is going to be another offseason in which everyone wrings their hands and thinks this is the end, and Chiefs are going to be overtaken because they got 'worse' while everyone else got 'better', and by December, the AFCW race is over and the Chiefs are once again the team to beat and everyone wonders how the hell Veach, Reid, and Mahomes do it. |

They’re losing 2 big pieces from this offense in Hardman and jjss. They’ll add someone to the group and we know how Andy is with rookie wrs so it isn’t likely coming that way. I don’t really think Hopkins fits what they want at wr but there continually evolving and pivoting so maybe he is what they’re looking for. But it’s just not a death blow to the cap either way. They’ll be able to sign and keep who they want when they want. |

The problem with the “stars and scrubs” thing during the hill time wasn’t paying hill it was lack of developing anything around him.
Paying a guy a lot doesn’t stop you from doing that |

I wouldn't bet on that. They'll add to the WR room, nobody thinks they won't, but it's highly unlikely that it's in the form of a high priced, over 30, 'WR#1' guy. That's poor cap value when KC is in a time frame in which it must maximize cap value across it's roster in order to field a championship caliber team. We're not necessarily losing either Hardman or JJSS. Hardman was hurt half of the year, and is just as likely to take a cheap on year deal to improve his standing in FA next year as not. And Juju's skillset is not a high value one, really. He may well find that doing another incentive laden deal in KC is his best option. Of the two, I'd bet that Hardman is the one that stays, and Juju's touches get spread around between Toney, Moore, Hardman, a re-signed Watson, and a draftee. There's no reason at all not to expect your younger players to take bigger roles, and Reid has even said so this week. |

Jjss made what, 10 million this year? I myself would rather pay more for a Hopkins than pay 14 million a year to keep jjss or 8 to keep hardman if those are my options. We know they wanted to pay Tyreek a lot. We know they were sniffing around trading for and paying AJ brown. The chiefs don’t seem to agree with the penny pinching at wr, but more so it just happened to be the situation they found themselves in |

Pacheco, Kelce and Toney are legit blue chippers. Keep trying to find other blue chippers but the cup is by no means bare.
Hope they don’t feel like they have to make a move like this bc last year proved they didn’t
