Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

Any way, so because Randy Moss, a generational talent was traded to the Patriots when he was 30 means trading for DHop is...?

For giggles on the HOFm #'s from earlier.

Randy Moss - 150.12 . Just a mere 2nd all time for WR's.
DeAndre Hopkins - 59.84 . A close 50 spots behind Randy.
Well you can’t really cherry pick like that. You need to know what Moss’s HOFm number was at 30 right before he was traded to the Pats and compare that to Hopkins HOFm number.

Lolz, no way. It just doesn't happen. It's a lottery, fcs. No one ever wins 80% of the time.

The claim was made to me that he was a 1st ballot HOF'er. I said no he isn't.

You chimed in and continued the conversation. He we are.

Again, FTR I'm not opposed to DHop as a player. I'm opposed to where he is in his career, price tag and cost of future draft capital. It's just too rich for my blood for the risk.

So since you live in Arizona and have seen DHop for all the time there. Could there be any bit of hometown bias you're not able to see beyond some of the issues that come with acquiring the guy? Just maybe?

Randy Moss retired at 34. DHop will be 31 next year. That means his last season he will be starting at age 33. The difference between the 2 is astronomical on those numbers.

It's like you guys aren't really understanding how close to the end of DHop's career he really is.

And why can't I cherry pick like that?

Others are able to cherry pick just yardage numbers and that is valid. But a value based number on all numbers isn't?

Lol, dude, i said in the very first post or two that I put in here that I'm not even a big DHop fan. Partly because he was a Texan. Partly because when he first got to AZ, he made a bit of an ass of himself in public, and dissed AZ in general in the process.

But I can see. And since he's become a Card, I've been forced to see him a lot. I've had to admit that he's ridiculously good. That he's definitely elite. There's no getting around that when you watch him play, week after week. Pretending that there's some other reason for his numbers or for the respect he gets around the league or in sport media just doesn't add up after a few games. He's that dude. I don't have to like the guy as a person or because he was an opponent for a while, but I have to be honest about his abilities as a player. Otherwise, I'm just another chucklehead GB fan.

And again, I've said several times I don't think we're getting DHop. He's going to want a new contract, and I doubt we could afford him at that point. But if there was a way, like somehow he plays on his existing contract for two years, he'd pay off in spades.

My only real arguments in this thread have been against the nuts that think he's not good, or wouldn't fit into the offense. It's nonsense.

Lol, no. I had a gf in college that was. She wasn't so bad, but her brother was awful. Couldn't watch any game with that guy that involved a team from Wisconsin. Every call against GB was BS no matter what, every loss was the NFL rigging it against GB . . . you get the picture. That became my internal example of what a cheesehead was. utterly blind in their fandom.

No, but the data suggest that we'll identify talent commensurate with that many starters.

Man, I tend to agree with you a bunch, but you think Pacheco was akin to winning the lottery? That's not how the front office described it.

Hitting on that many picks is..

A more realistic draft is the Helaire year, a few hits and misses...

Yes, we want D-HOP, but can we afford him?

Will he play on his current contract in KC? Will he take a discount in KC?

Can we get him for a 3rd + Conditional? How about MVS + a 3rd?

I don't want D-Hop, really. And if the Chiefs do go after him, I hope its not for anything more than a day 3 pick.

It's a short-term move and the cap implications limit a lot of what you can accomplish.
