Nobody's really super stoked about Damar Hamlin collapsing on a football field. I think we're all in agreement on that. Can we, y'know, actually PLAY the games at some point instead of just trying to one-up each other's displays of concern? Lord.

If you want to see a great example of virtue signal dog piling without any real thought or consideration, look at the intense reaction to Skip Bayless' innocuous tweet last night about the NFL's scheduling concerns. It's honestly like nobody actually read what he wrote.

Agreed. I was thinking about this a while back when something happened (don't remember what).

In theory, we want people to be able to say that they're hurting, or to reveal their anxieties. But guess what? We all have fears and anxieties. We all get traumatized in ways large and small. When everyone is sharing everything, then it causes others to get anxieties and be traumatized.

I think it's fine and good to be able to share when you're really hurting about something, or if you're being chased by a hell pig or a buffalo/tiger hybrid. But these days everyone is sharing how traumatized they are by having to empty the trash at work or having Starbucks run out of milk for their espresso. There needs to be a minimum bar for being traumatized, and anything below that bar is just dealing with life.

Right?

Of all the dipshit things that guy had said, he gets dragged for that?

He was finally right about something, FFS!

I remember Dick Butkus going on ESPN's Up Close in the 1990s.

He was on the field as an opposing player when Detroit's Chuck Hughes died.

Butkus said it was an honorable death, that was the best way to go out as a football player.

He's a paid hot take artist who regularly shits on my two favorite players of all time for ratings, but he didn't deserve what he got there. People were just looking for somebody to dump on.

I feel like it started with the coddling of children. Look at it, the kids that were raised coddled, are the young adults now.

Yep. We are all pulling for the kid, but life does go on and there is nothing wrong with figuring out a path forward for the season. To those that think it is inappropriate to discuss the playoffs and seeding, then when is it appropriate? Tomorrow? Next week? When we know about Hamlin? What if that takes several weeks?
