This year may be Buffalo's only shot, they're like 50 million over next years cap with key FA's on top of it, they are truly all in.

The kid flat out said that he wants more out of life than just football - that football doesn't make him who he is.

Some people will view that as a negative - that he's not committed enough - but honestly, it sounds to me like someone who has some perspective on how little of his life will actually be spent playing football.

The guys that let football define them usually end up emotionally shellshocked when the time eventually comes.

Or like Brady who literally is throwing away his personal life because he can't stop playing.

They're 20k over according to the Over The Cap calculator for 37 players.

They have some piggy banks they can break (primarily Josh Allen), but they are not going to be a major player in FA and don't have the flexibility to keep Edmunds and Poyer.

They can restructure Allen to create space for 2023, but his hits in 24-end of his deal then jump to 47.5M, 56.5M, 55.6M, 45.3M, 41.5M.

Restructuring Allen and Morse at their max restructures buys about 25M in cap space in 23, with 10M of that being slotted for the draft class. That leaves them $15M to fill out the roster, which isn't much when you're looking for 8-10 dudes. Von Miller isn't cut-able until 2024. And would require some really creative work to keep one of Edmunds or Poyer.

That Miller contract might have made them good enough to get past the Chiefs in the playoffs this year. But if it doesn't pay off this time, when is it going to pay off? Only going to get harder in the years to come.

The Chiefs reloading the way they did at the time they did really positions them well to dominate the next five years after this one. They have a lot more flexibility than their biggest competition in the AFC.

You know Miller is going to get hurt too. He's old and not super durable.

Bingo, this is their all in year, if they don't win it this year they're kinda hosed.

And I can safely say that if (when) we see the Bills again this year, the game plan isn't going to involve Wylie single blocking Miller the majority of the game.

So there are 3 teams in the AFC with the QB to really feel like they can legitimately go toe-to-toe with the Chiefs:

Buffalo
Cincinnati
Los Angeles Chargers

We just talked about Buffalo. The Chargers are in even worse shape against the cap and haven't even given Herbert the big deal yet.

Cincinnati is the only in comparable shape cap-wise, and will be looking to do its Burrow extension before next year... if the owners can afford to do it.

Higgins needs a new deal, too. Boyd is a free agent after 23. Jonah Williams needs a new deal. Logan Wilson will, too.

And that doesn't even factor in that Jamar Chase is gonna wanna break the bank and Cincy is historically a cheap franchise.

The Chargers spent all that money to keep all their guys before paying Herbert so now they'll have to start cutting guys to move forward...
