Car-nal Desires: Round 1, Heat 6

We have 84 entries in the tournament, and we'll collectively narrow the list down to the one Chiefsplanet dream car.

PICK TWO FROM EACH LIST ON THE POLL.

1977 Pontiac Can-Am https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...6&postcount=99

1939 Delahaye https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...&postcount=142

Valkyrie https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...0&postcount=44

2007 Porsche 997 GT3 RS https://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/show...&postcount=150

Recall the rules below. (Rule #5 was modified slightly from the nomination thread.)

1. This vehicle will be yours at no purchase cost.
2. You will keep your current vehicles, so no need to worry about fitting a baby seat in it or being able to haul mulch.
3. You're responsible for parking it.
4. You pay for gas or electricity.
5. Insurance and maintenance up to $3,000 per month is free to you. You cover the next $1,000 if the expenses are higher, and then after that the expenses are covered. So for a high-end vehicle you'll cover a max of $1,000 per month.
6. The vehicle must be street-legal.
7. The vehicle must actually exist. It cannot be a cartoon or concept drawing. However, it can be a production vehicle, a concept vehicle, a custom vehicle, or anything else that is real.
8. The vehicle being nominated is the exact vehicle shown. You cannot change the color, the interior, the engine size, etc.
9. You cannot use the vehicle to make money. It's only for your personal use.
10. You cannot sell the vehicle.
11. Any type of street-legal vehicle is allowed. You can nominate a car, a truck, a minivan, an RV, a semi-truck, a motorcyle, a classic car, a school bus, whatever. As long as it meets the rules above, it's eligible.

And my memory is that the GT3 isn't even AWD, so that even takes some of the Porsche Charm out of it. It's just a flashier Carrera S.

Fine car, don't get me wrong. I'd drive it (for a bit, before it kills me, as all GT3s invariably due - their reputation as a widowmaker is damn near unrivaled). But in a dream car competition? It can't hang with that crazy 30s SteamPunk thing or a genuine modern world eater like the Valkyrie.
Well I picked the Valkyrie so it wasn’t beating that one.

I dunno man. I just can’t get into the Adams family car. I mean, dads got a 1939 John Deere D. He kept it because grandpa bought it new and restored it in the late 90s, so dad thinks it’s worth more to him than anyone else and bought it back at the sale. I’ve drove that thing and that’s a big ****ing nope for me. Every goddamn classic tractor magazine, calendar whatever a D is in there. Publications from Deere is either a D or an A almost all the time. People think they’re awesome. The difference is I’ve driven one. That probably skews my perspective on that big bastard. All that being said it was close. I was in until I saw it was a 2 seater. I was doing the math in my head about getting chauffeured around in that. But since it’s only a 2 seater that switches back to my experience operating machines from the 30s and I’m out.

Plus you get thinking about the extra time you could get in a Porsche vs the Valkyrie or whatever super car. I could get around town in that thing meanwhile the Super cars are pretty much drive that thing into an enclosed trailer and get it to a place that doesn’t have dips. It moves the needle a bit. I can’t see it going very far but it convinced me in this round.

I don't think I've voted for an AWD car thus far - it's by no means a deal breaker for me.

But it kinda seems like part of what makes a Porsche a Porsche. Or dropping the flat 6 for a turbo 4. Or switching from air-cooled to water cooled.

There are some things that are just Porsche things and I feel like AWD is one of them. That's their lane. So to pick a Porsche as a dream car that's really them kinda trying to copy Ferrari and then slapping the same old shell on top that seemingly every Porsche has had for 25 years....eh.

Had to go with the CanAm. When I was 15 yrs old my oldest brother bought one new. Got to drive that thing several times, just loved it.

I'm a little confused on the Delahaye. I was wondering what type of engine it had given that the hood is the length of a football field, and I found this site about the car:

https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/0...pacific/887318

So is it really from 1939 or is it a modern custom? It's got a VIN plate that says 1939, but says it has a 2016 title. There's some rust underneath that I don't think would exist on a 2016, but it's got a modern V12 engine and they call it a modern homage to the Delahaye Atlantic.

The valve cover says deco rides. That’s some sort of mod. And I think it has electric windows. There are some switches behind the gear shifter.

Those old cars had giant ass engines. No power but giant ass engines. No clue what kind of performance that it has.

The over/under on my life expectancy in that thing would be 30 seconds. But yeah, I'd look good while dying in it.

Oh hell yes. That’s much better than the Viper I nominated. I’d authorize a substitution.

If a mid 90s Viper and a 2019 Corvette Stingray had a baby, it would be that thing.

Not a huge fan of that era Viper for whatever reason but that one definitely turned my head.
