Question for you car mechanics out there
I have a 97' Ranger. It wont start all it does is make a "click" sound when I try starting it.

I don't have battery cables but I do have a battery reader and the battery was at 12.3 Volts.

Any idea what might be the issue? I'm thinking a starter.

The standing voltage can be fine but CCA is what you need to start the vehicle.

Clean your connections with sand paper, check the fluids (water) in the battery and take it for a good run then hope for the best.

Possible. They don't require the amount of power the starter does.

Take battery off, go to auto parts store, have it tested. If it comes back good, then you will need to look at your starter. Will probably need to replace it, if you feel up to it take off your starter and take it to the parts store at the same time as the battery. They will test both

Yes.

Clean the terminals and the post at the battery with a wire brush. Make sure their tight. Use rubber gloves or wash hands afterwards.

If the truck started again then it’s most likely not the battery and could be intermittent because of corroded terminals, solenoid, or bad starter connection.
