Rocky Mountain Treasure Chest Found

I'm curious what's in it.

Here's the back story:

https://www.npr.org/2016/03/13/46985...-head-outdoors

tl;dr - A rich old guy hid a treasure chest somewhere in the Rockies that he claimed has $1 million of good stuff in it.

And it's been found:

Fascinating story, bless the old dude for spurring people’s imaginations... it’s cool he lived to see it found

My dad bought his book and went to look for his treasure a few times. He found buried clues pointing north from his position, but never found much else.

I thought about going for it a few times, but never did. I'm happy to hear someone found it and that it wasn't just made up for attention. Knowing me, I would've gone to look for it alone only to find it and have no way to get it anywhere, considering it weighed over 40 lbs and it was in the wildernes.

What a story that would've been.....

I thought about it but I am not familiar with the Rockys at all.

Now, if he'd buried somewhere in the Ozarks I'd have been all over that.

I'm not sure Jimmy Hoffa would fit in that box but that's what I'm going with.

When I was younger, my father spent an uncomfortable amount of time searching for Dutch Schultz's treasure:

I read about this earlier today. I'm still wondering why the guy announced it to the world (cough, cough, IRS) but it's still a cool story.

If that's the case it could get hairy. But you know what they say, one in hand is better than two in the bush.

Don't leave us hanging. Did he find it?

When I was a little kid, my mom zealously bought the National Enquirer. A couple of times they had stories of lost treasures with encrypted clues, and little nine year old me would spend a week trying to decipher them. I'm sure they were directing me to drink more Ovaltine or something.

We really should have all put our heads together on this. I bet the hive mind of chiefsplanet could have found it. Are there any other clued mysteries like this that we can go after?

Sadly, no. My father though did also invest in some treasure hunters who used to scour the ocean. At one point, they found some stuff in the Caribbean. My father told my sister and me to choose whatever we wanted. I opted for an NBA Jam arcade game in my room. Six months later, they finally aggregated their 'treasure' and it turned out to be a bunch of worthless artifacts. I made out with an arcade game in my room but I think my dad felt cheated. That was when I reminded him of TLC's advice, "Dad, stop chasing waterfalls. Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to."

We should build on your dad's work and find the Dutch Schultz treasure. Then you can proudly go back to your dad and present him with the NBA Jam game.
