So lets talk some legit options for our pick.

So with Breeland coming back that pretty much leaves us open to take the best player on the board.

I'd like in this thread to post some videos and such since in a lot of threads there are questions about how good a guy is and what he can do so twitter and youtube of course are great for vids.

Even though I've pined for Willie Gay quite a bit there are numerous other guys I'd be fine with using our pick on because well they'd be fine fits.

So I'll start with some Willie Gay video since I've been asked a few times what he's good at...

I like Shenault but he’s not very fast and injury prone. Aiyuk is a much better fit in this offense.

Maybe he will learn that down the road but if you draft him you better not play him outside to start.

I like Aiyuk going to a team like NO. Another guy not a fit here.
Do you know how many WR’s struggle with press coming out of college?

Shit, the guy I have #1 (Lamb) does.

He got beat on one play where he fell. Johnson was rarely beat the last 2 years, so if you’re going to cherry pick that one time he did that’s ridiculous.

Aiyuk literally just had surgery...

Shenault is injury prone to this point but I like his overall upside better. He's more versatile and has a much better chance of sticking as an every down player, he isn't slow and he brings a physicalness that none of our other guys have.

There’s a difference between getting injured and being injury prone....

Shenault is constantly battling injuries.

I would trust Lamb and Jeudy to play outside right away. Even little Hamler will fight through better to start than Aiyuk.

For some teams, no big deal. Just line Aiyuk in the slot and let him play. Not every team needs the same thing.

For KC, I would prefer someone with more versatility.

Here's the thing Aiyuk even if you get the best out of him is very similar to what we already have here...Shenault could take the Watkins/Robinson spot considering we're likely to lose those guys.

He's different and sometimes that can be helpful when running a versatile offense.

What does it matter whether he’s ready to start on the outside when we have Hill and Watkins for 2020?

Whoever we draft isn’t going to start on the outside.

I disagree. He’s a different player than Hardman and Hill. He’s more like Sammy, who I’ve actually seen him compared to by guys like Miller.

He’s the perfect guy to draft as Watkin’s future replacement. I just can’t see us drafting a guy that’s also raw (Shenault) that runs in the 4.6‘s.

It's hard for me to buy that Shenault is that slow, dude pulled away a ton of times. He's also really big and could shed a few lbs. I don't think they're taking a WR anyway, but I think Shenault is more likely to be a productive starter than Aiyuk is.

VARSITY
It would not surprise me one single bit if they took a WR in the draft.

Lets not forget the issues they had with Sammy and Tyreek at the same time and how much this Offense sagged in result.

That we can certainly agree on. I don’t think we go WR until round 3 at the earliest.

Also, I don’t think Shenault is quite that slow on tape, but it’s the 40 time we have and that going with him being raw and injury prone makes him a pretty big gamble.

I do love his tape though.

Shenault and Antonio Gibson are guys I could see them targeting as lower-cost buys (round 2, round 3) that could be the same type of receiver as Watkins in this offense.

They have the size/RAC ability/physicality that Watkins can provide. Neither is ready to do that Day 1, but they could provide some depth this year and be ready for larger roles next season.

Brugler mocked Chase Claypool to the Chiefs in the second round, which also is interesting. I don't think he's available that late, but he's a phyiscal hybrid sort who might be able to give them snaps as an outside receiver and eventually move to TE. His versatility is interesting, for sure.

Its not about picking out a play where he got beat. His athletic profile is not a 1st rounder. I like him as an option in the 3rd..but I like Harrison Hand just as much and he's getting mocked in the 3rd or 4th.

I think going forward the Chiefs should draft a starting WR about every 3 drafts, then let them walk or trade them at the end of their rookie contract. To me, that makes sense with Mahomes as QB. You sign a guy like Tyreek when you find one because you aren't finding another Tyreek. He will be here until he sucks completely. He will be our Marvin Harrison or TY Hilton. But other than that, Mahomes is going to make any decent WR look great. So go find a starting quality guy and flip them every few years unless you find another freak of nature like Tyreek, then you keep them or flip them for a big haul. It's the same approach I would take with starting RBs, and I think nearly everyone agrees with that position.

Edit: I should add that with both Sammy and Robinson on one-year deals, I believe they should try to grab a good WR by the 3rd. Hardman will be #2 next year, this years draft pick will be his backup. If the backup excels and becomes a starting quality guy, we let Hardman walk after his 5th year or trade him before. In two years we will need to draft another quality WR to be the backup behind this year's draft pick. Saves money to pay Mahomes.
