Let's talk about the 49ers (Super Bowl Edition)

Well Chiefs vs Packers is what I had hoped for, but that's not happening.

Let's talk about Chiefs vs 49ers here.

You know what I find funny?

49ers fans saying Shanahan is going to coach circles around Spags just because he had a lot of success against Spags shit defenses.

This ain’t that.

I also remember this gem from the Chiefs-Texans game...

Za’Darius Smith was a fun watch on Speak For Yourself.

He said the key to holding SF down is setting that firm edge and holding your gap, which he admits he and their outside backers didn’t do well enough.

But... he said he expect Suggs and the Chiefs will be able to do that, and that they will win because of it.

This is an underrated matchup in the game. The Chiefs ends have been put together as a group that does set a hard edge very well. Clark and Suggs take that part of the game just as seriously as rushing the passer. It may make all the difference for us.

Funny quote from Za'Darius. Reminds me of the old saying that to an lawyer, every problem is a legal one. To the economist, every problem is an economic one. To the psychologist, every problem is a psychological one. We see things through the lens of our own experiences. My view is that the 49ers' running game is most susceptible to a team with fast, disciplined linebackers. How are KC's?

I think he’s got a very strong point though. That offense is obviously built off of their ability to run, and they want to win the edge to set everything else up. The wide zone run is the bread and butter. You limit that and you might be onto something as a defense.

Damien Wilson is pretty good in that area, our best ILB. Ragland and Hitchens are physical but not very fast. They’ve been much more disciplined since Henry hit them with a huge cutback TD in the week 10 matchup.

They're slow, but big and physical.

You don't need fast LB's to stop the run. Fast LB's are good for rushing the passer or playing in coverage. You need a front 7 that plays disciplined and maintains their gaps, and doesn't leave cutback lanes wide open. Which is what the Chiefs have been doing for the past two months.

Now, i imagine Shana-Rat will attempt to get his RB's in space, which certainly favors the 9ers. But i expect that, if that mismatch is killing us, Spags will adjust as he's done most of this season. Don't be surprised if he adjusts by assigning a DB to shadow your RB's, he's done that before too.
