Philadelphia Trip Suggestions

I'm being sent, somewhat reluctantly, to Philadelphia next week on business. I'll be there for a couple of days.

I'm staying on Market Street in Downtown, Rittenhouse Square area. I know I would like to see Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell etc. Those appear to be within walking distance of the hotel.

Any suggestions for a Cheese Steak around that area? Anything else to do? I'll be fairly busy, but I'll have late afternoons and evenings free.

Thx in advance.

It has been 20 years since I was there, but there was a dancer that could pick up a $10 stack of quarters and give you EXACT change that you request.

DO NOT waste your time at Pat's or Geno's. They are vile.

Go to Reading Terminal Market and get a roast pork sandwich at Dinic's. Also pick up some homemade chocolate and fudge at Mueller Chocolate Co.
https://readingterminalmarket.org/
https://readingterminalmarket.org/merchant/dinics/
https://readingterminalmarket.org/me...-chocolate-co/

If you want a cheesesteak go to either Tony Lukes, John's or Dellasandro's. All three are great.

For pizza try Tacconelli's Pizza

For breakfast, try eating scrapple

Get some pretzels for sure

Run the Rocky steps at the art museum. then go inside if it's open.

Pats or Genos for Cheesesteaks.

Rodin museum is outside open air but has great sculptures. May be a bit cold for this one, or snowy.

Also a Chiefs bar in the area, but I never been so Don't know much about it.

The Independence Hall area is amazing. It really put the early formation of the government into perspective for me. ("Hey, there are the three houses of government. Right there.") I found it powerful to stand in the place where the Declaration of Independence was first read publicly.

I was there a few months ago, and I really wanted to go see some of the historic mansions there. There are several of them if you google "historic mansions". But my only free day was on a Monday and they were all closed, so I can't tell you if they were cool. But I think they probably were.

I attended a series of company schools there in the early to mid 90s. We always stayed at the Marriott on Dock St. From there you can go to Penn's Landing and they have a lot of things to see, including the Olympia and a WWII sub. https://www.phillyseaport.org/
The school itself was in the old Public Ledger building, just across the street from Independence Hall. There's a little street behind that building that is full of jewelry stores and places to grab a slice or a cheese steak. I can't remember the name of the street, but the locals called it Jewelers Row.

For people visiting Philly, Lorenzo is easy to to find and great pizza. Now that i live in the pizza wasteland that is orange county, CA, I'd kill for Lorenzo. If you already have access to good pizza, just roll with the cheesesteaks and roast pork (make sure it has SHARP provolone and broccoli rabe).

For great food and atmosphere eat at Tequilas.

the Museum of Art was in the Rocky film and has a statue of Stallone as Rocky. IIRC, it is near the Schuylkil River (pronounced School Kill) and you can watch people rowing on the river from a thin patch of grass and trees along the side of the river (pretty sure this is the only place to see grass and trees in that wretched city).

South Street has tons of bars. Yuengling (pronounced ying ling) is brewed in Philly and it is worth trying.

Have fun and try not to get killed. Remember: people in Philadelphia are uneducated and violent and they hate you (no matter who you are).
There are great cheesesteaks, but both Pat's and Geno's are not the best ones. Try Steve's Prince of Steaks. Yuengling is brewed in Pottsville and Tampa, not in Philadelphia. The lager is OK, but Premium is better, but your probably not going to find any outside Pottsville as it has very limited distribution. Basically the rule is Philly sucks, but only locals can say so. They have a severe inferiority complex. See the historic sites downtown. Have a soft pretzel. Buy it from a street vendor. If it doesn't have a hint of exhaust fumes you bought it from the wrong place.
